"..." Ellen swiped at her face angrily, brushing hair out of her eyes as a pretence to cover up the tears welling up in her eyes.
"I can't," she said at last, and held up a hand as it looked like he might argue. "And not because I don't wanna. Because I honestly have no idea why I've ended up here." She sighed, placing her hands on her hips as she looked out across the carpark, ignoring the stares behind them.
"But I know who you are, and Sam." She tried to think of how much she could say without telling him who she was, not knowing what year she was in - whether he and her mom had got their act together or not yet.
"And yeah, I'm a hunter. Just like you." She paused. "...Well. Not just like you...so," she glanced behind them, diners staring at them both now.
"How about we get breakfast to go, and you tell me why you're here? Cuz I know it's not just a vacation."
