"No." She rolled her eyes with a sigh. "Death used to fuel magic is the ultimate evil." She didn't actually say duh, but it was pretty well implied. "Keep up with the conversation." She peeked through the knotted strands of her hair that hung down into her face to see his reaction to that.
"Well. Looks like we've both had bad experiences then, huh?" She tilted her head a little to peer at him a bit better. "Good thing I'm not a witch." She hadn't ever said what she was, and he hadn't asked.
"But I don't know where else to look to go further back. The historical society doesn't have evening hours."
