I blinked in surprise at the sudden onslaught of rap music from Leah's mind. She was giving me a glare that could freeze blood. Good thing I didn't bleed. My lips thinned at her manner and her deliberate sidestepping of my telepathic abilities.
"Bella is this way," I said shortly, leading them down the hall to the guest bedroom where I had left Bella watching television. I made sure to stay with them. I knew whatever they had to say, it was probably serious, and I didn't want Bella overly upset. I moved to her bedside and put one hand on her shoulder. Strangely, Jacob didn't even seem to notice. I would have expected a sudden outpouring of petty jealousy from his mind, or at the very least an impotent glare. But no--there was no indication that he minded at all.
How odd.
Jacob:
I managed a weak smile in response to Bella's enthusiastic greeting. "Hello, Bella." I took a deep breath. I was still holding Leah's hand in mine, and I squeezed it, tightly. I could smell Bella, covered with the stench of that leech, smell the blood inside the cup beside her. The corner of her mouth was red from slurping at it. I suddenly felt slightly ill. I shook my head to clear it. I had come here with a purpose, and I intended to see this through.
I straightened my shoulders. "There's something I need to talk to you about, and I want you to just listen." I looked a Leah quickly for support, then turned back to Bella. "Leah and...we imprinted. Last night. One each other." I took another long breath and silently waited for a response.
