I grin as she giggles. It's not a sound I ever really imagined coming from Leah, but I like it. I loved her smile. I found myself wishing she would do it more often. I stretch, muscles tense and knotted from sleeping on the ground, brush dirt and dry leaves from the back of my jeans. No point in even bothering with my hair. We probably look like two wild things, some kind of forest-dwelling creatures, but I don't care. Last night was one of the greatest of my life, and a little dirt and hunger is a small price to pay for Leah.
"Sounds like a plan." The talk could definitely wait until we were both looking a little more like people than wild animals.
"Meet you back here in two hours then."
Before she can answer, I lean forward impulsively and hug her close to me, holding her as tightly as I can. "You look really pretty today, by the way." I'm not sure where the words came from, and I felt myself blushing. Jeez, how much more of a dork could I be? But I meant every word.
