“Details,” he said, catching her tongue lightly between two fingers before letting it go. “A taken woman? By whom? I’ll find the dastardly criminal and give him what for,” he said with ridiculous dramatics, then grinned. “Oh, can’t I?”
He smiled down at her as she rose to her full height, relieved to see the light back in her cheeks and the pleasure in her expression. “I am unashamed and unapologetic,” he responded, returning the kiss as it was given and holding her closer still.
Jack understood that completely. He valued some tradition as well, and he certainly intended to marry her. After twenty years, it could be safe to say that they knew each other as though they were one. It was only a matter of time now. Really, he was hoping for Anna’s return. He’d been hoping for it more intensely for a few years now, because he knew that she was the last piece of the puzzle before he could truly make Elsa as happy as she deserved. Perhaps it was silly to keep waiting, and he was getting impatient, but still. The timing just wasn’t quite right. “And you’re the most beautiful of us all, so I’m sure everyone is thrilled that you protect everything else.”
