Emma didn’t like anything that happened without her permission, especially something as dramatic as being pulled from home and dropped into the middle of the ocean. Really, this time was just annoying. The first time had been a shock, but at least she knew immediately what had happened this time. It helped, too, that Alex was here when she arrived, which hadn’t been the case before. She didn’t function quite as well without him, especially now that their relationship had reached new levels of co-dependency and teamwork. She needed him.
She’d tossed his gross khakis into the waste bin as soon as she could get them off of him, covering them with trash so that she didn’t have to look at them. She’d had the concierge bring up a change of clothes for them as well, something to tide them over until she could go shopping with Caroline.
She giggled as he anticipated, leaning back against him without hesitation when he settled behind her. “I’m making their lives better and you know it. I learned my lesson with Harriet. It’s all positive now, with just a little Emmanipulation,” she said. “Well, once we go public again, we should manage okay. We’ll have to set up a new office and find new people, but we can manage. We’ve done it before, after all.”
