Magical Law Enforcement Squad
Canon is rather confusing when it comes to magical law enforcement, so below is how we consider it to work for Bloodlines canon.
The Head of the entire division (Amelia Bones's position) is Gianna Goodwin.
Enforcers
These witches and wizards are the magical equivalent of Muggle police. They handle everyday disputes, broom regulations, murder--everything up to and sometimes including cases involving dark magic usage. These latter cases would be very limited and would be immediately turned over to the Aurors upon confirmation of the circumstances. It would then be possible for the Enforcers to still oversee pieces of the case, if needed by the Auror Squad.
Responsible areas include (but are not necessarily limited to):
The primary investigators of the incidents typically carry the rank of Inspector, while the majority simply go by Enforcer [Last Name].
This segment comprises approximately 45% of the total staff in this area. (approx 200 total)
Head: Oswald "Oz" Somerset Played:Will Turpin Others: Inspector Lin Hardy, Enforcer Worsfold (Homicide day shift); Enforcers Boslington, Littleby & Val Anderson (Homicide night shift)
Aurors
Aurors are responsible for researching, tracking and hunting dark wizards. They also handle the investigation of all crimes committed with dark magic, though many times these cases will be turned back over to Enforcer investigators if the perpetrator does not appear to have any significant ties or intentions. Aurors will go after individuals, but it is almost always in the interest of tracking it back to a problem group. Most cases of dangerous individuals will be turned over to the Hit Wizard squad.
The entire department has a Head Auror, then under him there are several teams, each with its own Lead. The squad is a bit jumbled at the moment, since the Head and 4 of the 5 Leads just died. However, ideally there would be 5-6 Leads each with 5-6 Aurors on his/her team.
This segment comprises approximately 10% of the total staff in this area, although they are currently understaffed due to war and the recent deaths in the department. (16 total)
No one in the world is better trained at taking down dangerous criminals, whether they be powerful dark wizards or drug-crazed psychopaths. Hit Wizards often work in tandem with the Auror squad, but they are typically the ones who actually stake out and then capture the wrongdoers. Their jobs are highly physical, highly magical, and highly dangerous.
There are 2 teams of 3 active at any given time, with 4 on call for emergencies. The hours are long and sporadic, often involving 24-hour shifts with few or no breaks. These sorts of assignments can go on for days, with the first part being silent observation and the end being a battle for their lives. As a result, Hit Wizards have their own assigned beds at St. Mungo's, and they are generously compensated in their salaries for the hazardous conditions.
This segment comprises less than 5% of the total staff in this area. (10 total)
