The Master walked in, nose bloodied, escorted by two members of the new and improved Iron Legion carrying a case. The rest of the Iron Legion were still fighting the Avengers on the other side.
"I so appreciate you keeping her safe for me. Killer robots can be prone to collateral damage," the Master started with a laugh before licking her lip. The redheaded human punched hard.
"I think I've already proven I could so be a better Doctor. You and me," she said, speaking to Jane now and ignoring Steve, "could really do things, you know? We'd be together again! Like when we were kids! Before the stupid Academy ruined everything. You know I'm right about the being a better Doctor part. I'm willing to do the things you can't."
The Iron Legion raised their free arms and trained weapons directly on Steve, setting down the create between them. The Master pranced up to it and opened it up, showing a strange mechanical helm inside.
"You know what this is, don't you?"
The Doctor stared at it.
"Come on! Whaddya say? Be my companion! Haven't you ever wondered what it was like for all those people you showed around time and space? I mean, it's not like it would work if you were still The Doctor. You'd try to undermine me and we'd fight and probably just end up killing each other.
"So, here's the deal. Put it on or I go ahead and kill Captain America anyway. I went through a lot of trouble to save him, too."
"Let him leave," the Doctor finally found words to speak.
"Oh no, he's definitely going to want to watch this..."
The Doctor hesitated, but stepped out from behind Steve, speaking lowly to him. "Don't interfere. It won't kill me, I promise..."
"Well, I mean, it shouldn't kill her if I built it right, but I am kind of crazy!" the Master grinned.
The Doctor glared at The Master sharply which just made the other Time Lord giggle.
"Put it on," the Master said.
"How do I know you won't kill him after I've done it?" asked the Doctor.
"Because I super pinky swear!" said the Master.
The Doctor didn't look convinced. She picked up the helm of the create, at on the edge of Steve's bed, and took a deep breath. The Master took out a small, silver pocket watch with Gallifreyan writing on it and placed it on the helm.
"Smile!" said the Master. "Everybody lives!"
With that the Doctor put on the helm. And she screamed. Even the Master winced as she watched her alien friend convulse in pain. The Iron Legion moved forward to hold Steve Rogers back and keep him from interrupting the process. Rory could hear her screams. Tony could hear her screams. The Doctor didn't have the luxury of passing through the process.
It lasted several minutes. The Master grinned when she looked at Steve. When it finally finished, she gently removed the helm. One of the Iron Legion stayed on Steve to keep him back, the other stepped forward to scoop up Jane Smith in its arms.
The Master plucked the fob watch and then tossed it to Steve, "Catch! ...Careful. That's the Doctor in there. I'd hate to see what happened if it broke."
Checking on Jane's pulse, the Master imitated her new heartbeat: "Tha-thump! Tha-thump! Congrats! It's a healthy human girl! Oh, we are going to have the best of times! I can't wait to see what we're capable of. We could stop Ragnarok!"
She waived to Steve on their way out, as the new Doctor carried her new companion toward the TARDIS.
