Natasha was good. The moment the woman asked that question, she knew Cap was hesitating. "Stick to the plan, Cap. Tell her everything's fine, give her a smile and a kiss on the cheek."
They didn't have eyes in the room - Steve had drawn the line at wearing a camera - but they had a camera that he didn't know about set up across the street, looking in the glass balcony doors.
Steve tried the smile. It looked a little forced, but he was happy to give her the light kiss to the cheek. "Might I come in for a moment? If you don't mind."
Answering her question simply wasn't going to work. He couldn't reassure her without lying, couldn't give her the truth without jeopardizing his mission.
