It was unspeakable to intrude in another's mind without first being invited - especially when they were sleeping. He didn't do it. And yet, he stayed close, close enough that he was certain she knew he was there before she finally opened her eyes. The smile she gave him warmed him like a swath of fire in the desert. Some of the tension of not knowing where they were eased out of his face briefly.
"Good morning," he said to her. It was perhaps afternoon, but for the both of them, it still felt like early morning. They would adjust to the cycle of this world - wherever it was - shortly. They always did. "Are you well?" he asked. There was no distress coming from her that he could notice, but it was still good to ask her.
They needed to get their bearings and learn where they were now - but first, he would assure himself that she was well.
