They didn't make it all the way down the escalator. As more of their pursuers pooled at the bottom of the escalator, Rose tossed herself off the railing and onto the counter leading into a display case. She got out of the way quickly, dropping down and behind the men's cologne counter. There was a pretty blue bottle in front of her. While waiting for her companion, she grabbed it, sprayed, sniffed, and gagged, throwing the bottle over her shoulder with a brilliant crash.
"Geronimo," she said over her shoulder, once she seized his hand again and started leading him out toward the TARDIS. "I like that one. Mind if I borrow it sometime?"
They barreled through Lingerie and on into Ladies Clothing. Everywhere they ran, customers and salespeople alike turned to follow them. At last, they made it to the door. Rose pulled it open with a triumphant cry, and many cars in the street just stopped. Crashes, smashes, all manners of cacophony followed, and her expression dropped as the drivers of the stopped cars and some of the pedestrians turned toward them.
There was no way they were going to make it all the way across the street.
She took off for the side of the building, then, hoping that the service alleyway was free. Ah, and it was! They ran hard, down toward the end, as she pulled out her TARDIS key. Sure enough, the sound of the old girl's engines came bright and clear from the back of the alley as the ship materialized. On either side of the service alleyway, doors were opening and remote controlled people were spilling out. She snapped her fingers in front of her as they ran, and the door swung wide for them.
"Haa!" she cried, throwing herself straight for the console. As soon as her surprise guest was in, she snapped the door closed and threw a switch. The dull, slow banging on the TARDIS door stopped as soon as it started.
