Hannibal was not at all surprised to discover that the end of the forest was so quickly walked to. He had imagined that the girl had set all of this up for herself, perhaps in a fugue state, unaware of what she was doing to the larger part of her consciousness. The speed at which they came upon the new view only validated his previous notions.
His eyes swept the skyline in front of him. The amalgam of buildings that created their new surroundings. This was certainly not Baltimore. It was, quite simply, nowhere within Maryland. It was no city that he had ever seen. Granted, Hannibal had not been in every place the United States. There were plenty of areas that he was simply not interested in seeing. He saw no value to them, found no intriguing monuments or landmarks. He could not immediately shuck off the probability that this was one of those. There was nothing that he saw to encourage the strange things that Honour was saying.
"The City." His eyes fell down to where her hands grasped onto his arm. "Why does it not have a more substantial name?"
Dangerous, dangerous to indulge in a delusion as he was.
