Where: A big brand bookstore When: Tuesday Early Afternoon? (I can change this if another time works better) Who: Rae and Abel
Rae hadn’t lingered in the shop after her meeting with Antonio; she’d gone home instead, leaving the opportunity for a new book behind. There was just too much to think about but by the next day, she was regretting her choice not to pick one up. She needed to feel like she was doing something better than sitting around and waiting but it would have been awkward to go back to the store before he’d called her.
Instead, she decided to spend part of her day browsing the local big name mega bookstore. She could almost guarantee herself that there wouldn’t be any magic books there worth picking up, but that didn’t stop her. It was a chance to get out away from work.
Soon she found herself surrounded by bookshelves and a little locked cabinet of tarot decks. Vaguely she wondered if that was to protect the decks from people rummaging through them or to stop shoplifters. And if so, was it the shoplifters who wanted to use the decks or the ones who wanted no one too? Rae was keenly aware of the latter type. Her mother fell into that category. The word “magical” wasn’t something that got used in her household and teenage years, not even to describe Christmas lights. Her mother reserved a special aura of disapproval just for the mention of anything beyond the mundane.
The waitress felt she was doing something illicit just by thumbing through a few candle magic new age books. That was part of what made it so much fun.
She was casually dressed; not one of the obvious new age types. No flowing skirt, no crystal necklace or handmade earrings. Just jeans, a long sleeve navy shirt layered over a white tank top and a grey hooded sweatshirt over that. Casual, the way she preferred it when there was no need to impress.
