“I love you.” It was an odd response, perhaps, but it did establish that the humor was well-meaning as always. She would get the joke later, and in the meantime, he couldn’t help but appreciate those little flaws of hers that kept her human in his eyes when so many others regarded her as much, much more. He would have to be sure, in the future, that no proposal attempts were made near grates or the like, where the ring could be lost.
His hand closed about hers and he gave her a playful tug to pull her with him to the door. The rest of the tour wasn’t to be a disappointment. Henry loved his work, which tended to translate in doing it well. He seemed happy to see his furniture (and his Xbox), but he didn’t get hung up again until they were in the kitchen. That was his domain more than hers, though she had her little balcony that she had fallen in love with to look up to. The layout took her wings into account, which would make it more comfortable than if they had moved to either of their former residences.
He thoughtlessly released her hand to smooth his out over the island’s countertop. “You know, we do need to make a run out for food anyway, so I guess we could look at new sheets then. And maybe you can pick up a plant or two, since you’ve been so patient.”
