He let her reach her mark before swatting languidly at her hand. It was easy to forget that he wasn't necessarily harmless, a thing that most humans raised as Hunters, the way he had been, never learned to hide. Andrew made a convincing picture of normalcy. Which made it quite prettily tragic to anyone who knew what he was getting himself involved with where Melisande Wyndel was concerned.
But he did know, and he thought she was the one getting the worse end of their arrangement. He would live his mortal life and die, but he knew from experience that being the one left behind was no blessing.
"It was tedious. And I didn't get to sit and send texts during all my meetings, the way you seem to. But I got through it, and I even left the tie on for you."
He turned from her to take a drink of his cocoa, then thought of the comment he had just overlooked, and spoke up again. "Was that an invitation by the way? Our first official Christmas party. Should be fun. For me, anyway. I'll finally be within my rights to keep Gabe from away from you."
