May 6, 2013 Zeek & Open Castro District: "Does Your Mother Know" Sex Shop 10:45pm
Usually, this little strip of Castro Street was alive at night. The rainbow flags lining the street usually hovered over sidewalks that had multitudes of pedestrians taking in the "gay capitol" of America. It was dead tonight, with only a few people walking by. Zeke was sitting inside a shop called "Does Your Mother Know", which specialized in porn, sex toys, and other deviant lifestyle paraphernalia.
The store was dead, and he was contemplating stepping out to have a cigarette to help pass the time until the shop closed at midnight. His hair was a violent shade of purple, swept down in front of his face as he sat on a stool behind the glass counter near the door. A bright display of various dildos shined behind the glass, but they had lost their novelty long ago.
A small television was playing CNN, which mixed with the Yeasayer song droning softly over the store's sound system. A bowl of goldfish crackers sat near him, and he had an iPad open on his lap, his face contorted with concentration as he attempted to beat a difficult level of Plants vs. Zombies. Sales were shit for the day. Most of the people that came in had just been curious to see what was inside, or they had been tourists who just wanted to be able to tell their friends back home that they went inside a San Francisco sex shop.
When the door dinged to announce that someone was entering, Zeek assumed it would be another non-buying passer-by. He still raised his blue eyes from the iPad to see who it would be. He was the only one working tonight, so he made it a point to make eye contact with everyone that entered, just in case they were underage, a potential shoplifter, or maybe the future love of his life (not that he was looking).
