March 2
Mikino, Melisande, Andrew Mikino's Home Early morning Mel's check-up and more setbacks
Tauryn’s estimation of him hadn’t been wrong, but it had everything to do with Melisande. If he was calm at heart, if his patience wasn’t strained even by the constant pressure of reassuring her and having her run from him, then it was also because she gave him a reason to believe things would work out for them. He had always wanted that quiet, peaceful life. The one they both dreamed of. But before her, he had his doubts that he could have it.
He saw what this place had to offer her. All of those things that everyone else saw. And he knew, not because anyone told him but because he knew her, that his presence made things harder in some ways just as it made them better in others. But he dismissed the idea quickly that she would be better off without him. It was the same as her worries that she was holding him back. He knew it was worth it to her because he felt the same.
He had stayed the night in the Alcaeyn estate at Mikino’s urging. She was to see the doctors that morning and it would save time to have Andrew already there. He hadn’t gotten lot of sleep, but he was accustomed to running on fairly little, and he was getting more these days than he had in a while, so he could afford a long night here and there.
Mikino was already with her when Andrew was escorted to the room where the doctor had not yet entered. Judgment was explaining the process to her as it had been explained to him. He was good with her, Andrew noted. Calm, patient in a way that he wouldn’t have expected before meeting the Sidhe. He had experience with this sort of thing though, Andrew knew. Melinda had suffered from nightmares just as Melisande did, though for different reasons. Andrew had asked Mikino about it all himself, at some point, rather than settle for the gossip from others.
He stopped in the doorway, as far from her as he could get. He always quit moving when he saw her now, giving her the time to adjust and the visual reminder that she was in control, even if that was only because he gave it to her. "'Morning, Mel. Mikino."
