Abel and Andrew
Andrew’s porch
Evening
Clues about Gabriel’s connections.
It was nearly dark when he got home, but he kept his promise and made it in time. No one would have blamed him for breaking it for Melisande’s sake, but the truth was that she needed her rest. He needed his too. The already familiar drive had become tediously so these days, and it was a wonder he hadn’t fallen asleep at the wheel yet. But it gave him time to think.
He pulled into the driveway beside where Abel had parked. Things had at least gone well enough with Mel. Better than could be expected. She was still feeling sick, but she would have her physical soon. Hopefully they could get her well physically. It might help with the mental and emotional aspects if she weren’t so drained all the time. He’d have given anything to just get to stay there with her during those naps, the way it could have been if Gabriel hadn’t used his illusions so well.
But they weren’t to that point just yet. She was still afraid of hurting him, and he was afraid of how that would in turn hurt her.
The exterior was given a once-over, but things seemed quiet. He was getting his keys out, a habit, as he went up his porch steps, assuming the door was kept locked.
