2 January 2013 (Wednesday) Mikino, Melisande, Andrew, and Hailey Wednesday afternoon Hailey is sick, Mel to the rescue
It was Wednesday, and that meant Daddy went to the human cities. Only today he was sitting beside her on the bed, reading her new favorite story, The Giving Tree, which had been a gift from Mr. Andrew. They took turns. Daddy would read a page, and then it was Hailey’s turn to read one. Pristine little wings were snuggled up around her, blending with the array of purple pillows she nestled into against her father’s side, sounding out the words with a sleepy defiance.
Tiny features perked up, golden eyes bright and as alert as they had been all day when the door opened. Andrew had promised, and he was better at the voices than Judgment. She wriggled to sit up, only to be scolded gently, told to rest. She was tired of resting though. She was tired of being stuck in her room and of being so sleepy all the time. The medicines made the hurting stop, but if she stood up she always ended up stumbling and Daddy had to pick her up and everyone made such a fuss that she wasn’t allowed to try again all day.
She was too worn out to be very petulant, so Hailey sank back and gave her bestest and brightest smile for Andrew when he came in. Then came the pretty girl, with wings just like hers, and her head tilted forward, fever-dampened hair falling in pieces over her shoulder. Hailey wasn’t a shy child by nature, but like all youngsters, she had her bouts with it. Her wings folded in to shield her, that ochre gaze locking onto the newcomer with adoring trepidation.
