Liliana and Nikolai
Sunday evening, just before dusk
A public park/campground
Just Because
Lil was supposed to be meeting up with everyone’s favorite snake, Audric. Lately she had been hesitant to subject herself to his company. Once she was there, she was susceptible to his charm. Perhaps it was that artificial appeal he emanated, the same as the pheromones that Liliana herself produced. She liked to blame that as much as he did. It surely couldn’t be any genuine appreciation for one another. So, she avoided the situation to begin with, knowing that once she was there, she was sure to melt into his game of the day and thank him for the abuse.
She had been convinced to wear shoes today, but the progress was slight, and she had kicked the ballerina-style slippers off midway through her walk. They dangled from the crook of three fingers now, all but forgotten, while she watched a stranger some yards away who was lingering near one of the area’s little fire pits. The flame was burning merrily and it reminded her of her loss. Of Maira. Thoughtlessly, she allowed herself to be drawn in, heedless of the danger approaching some unknown could pose, and extending her free hand forlornly toward the flames.
Liliana didn’t make for an imposing figure as she invaded that space so carelessly. She had a slight build and delicate, youthful features. Curls framed the lovely face, their mahogany hue an odd contrast to muted platinum eyes. The fresh smell of lilacs waged its war against the smoke, laden with the chemicals that evoked such desire in humans. A trap, but a pretty one at least.
