The motion with the cutlery didn’t go unnoticed; her eyebrows would arch but her mouth stayed closed. It was an odd, interesting thing but probably because she had never seen anyone do that before in the diligent way it was being performed. Sure, people were paranoid and an inspection of the flatware was probably a good idea at restaurants, but she knew their things were cleaned. It wasn’t worth bringing up.
In her distraction she hadn’t noticed the buzzing, but as soon as he mentioned it her sharp ears perked up and her head would tilt to the side as if she were listening. “I hear something,” she murmured. It didn’t sound like the slot machines or the usual hum of voices conversing.
She wasn’t sure of the source exactly, which didn’t settle well with her. “But I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s from that thing earlier.” That thing, that cloud and the boom that came before it.
