She wasn’t sure if the joke was one of those meant to be laughed at considering it seemed more inwardly placed, yet she couldn’t help herself. Her smile grew brighter, more genuine. But she kept the quip about becoming dust bunnies to herself.
At the declaration of being willing to eat she grinned, nodding. “You got it! Coming right up!”
And then she found herself heading back to the counter where it all began. A moment to check her phone - a text from Brian would be quickly returned ‘I’m okay. Things got shaky for a second.’ - and then a cup of coffee would occupy the space in her hand where the mobile had been.
Few easy paces and she returned with the steaming cup of coffee, a small saucer of creamer, and some utensils. “There you go.”
