I want to protect you
Who: Merrick & Ronnie Milam
What: Text Conversation
Where: Phone - Texts
When: October 2, evening
Ratings/Warnings: Low
Merrick: Hello Ronnie. It’s Merrick, the man that shared a funnel cake and a recipe with you.
Ronnie: Oh yeah, hey! What’s up, man? Thanks again for the funnel cake and the recipe.
Merrick: The usual - walking about, visiting small music venues and food trucks. You’re welcome. How are you? Apologies again for not having a complete recipe for you.
Ronnie: Hey, no, really, it’s fine. It’s been easy to pencil a few things in. I’m … yeah, I’m fine. Everything is fine.
Merrick: Are you okay? Three fines and an ellipsis.
Ronnie: Yeah. Perfect. I promise. maybe.
Merrick: Are you sure?
Ronnie: Yeah. I saw one of those monster things. Pretty bad conversation. He didn’t like me.
Merrick: Oh? I did too, but I was fortunate to get away. Back into the vessel. Ugh! You are safe then?
Ronnie: safe. Yeah. Sorry you went through that.
Merrick: Ronnie. It’s good you are safe. I’ve been through worse, Ronnie. I promise.
Ronnie: that’s unsettling but I’m glad. Sorry, that was rude. I know stuff is out there - don’t get me wrong - but not like this. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.
Merrick: It’s okay. I’ve seen a lot. Are you somewhere safe? I want to protect you.
Ronnie: That sucks, I’m sorry. I’m at home. I’m good. It’s quiet so I feel like that’s a good sign.
Merrick: You have nothing to be sorry for. If you are ever in Las Vegas, text or call me. I am sure you can stay where I am.
Ronnie: I was there a couple of days ago, staying with a friend. That’s nice of you, thank you. I might take you up on that.
Merrick: That is good. You’re welcome. I am available via text whenever you need.
Ronnie: Cool. I appreciate that. The full moon is always so quiet, you know?
Merrick: My pleasure. Do I detect sarcasm?
Ronnie: it’s possible. Very possible.
Merrick: Full moons and Saturday nights are the most … lively.
Ronnie: That’s what I’ve heard! Not in a bad way, it’s just active.
Merrick: Exactly! And Las Vegas is active all around. But I think Searchlight may be a better place to spend a full moon.
Ronnie: it’s super quiet, but that’s why I like it. You know?
Merrick: I do. When I was in New York City, there were times where it was so quiet. And in Europe and Greece. I can remember when I was young - all you could hear is the breeze.
Ronnie: I lived in New York, too. For a few years. I don’t think I’ve been anywhere else.
Merrick: How is it there? I haven’t been awhile.
Ronnie: last I saw, busy. Haha. Like Vegas except more or less lights.
Merrick: Interesting. Sounds like you are calmer now.
Ronnie: Haha. Thanks! I’m trying.
Merrick: You’re welcome. What can I do to help?
Ronnie: nah. Your friendship is enough.
Merrick: I am glad.
Ronnie: It’s all good. I’m good. I appreciate you though.
Merrick: Thank you. I am happy to be of help. But do not hesitate to text or call if you need anything.
Ronnie; Thanks! That’s super cool of you.
Merrick: You’re very welcome.
Ronnie: Thanks for being a good friend.
Merrick: A pleasure. Thank you for befriending me.
Ronnie: the feeling is mutual! I’m always happy to have a great friend!
Merrick: Always. I look forward to running into you again.
Ronnie: Me too.
Merrick: Tell me about your favorite recipe?
Ronnie: it’s my mama's apple pie. I can’t share. It’s a family secret ;)
Merrick: I definitely understand! What is your favorite part of making it?
Ronnie: the making it part. I make everything from scratch.
Merrick: I can understand that. When I was younger, I would watch people make bread, pastries. Such art!
Ronnie: it is, right? Glad you appreciate it. One cook to another.
Merrick: Thank you. I just hope to make small dishes and work my way up to breads and desserts.
Ronnie: if you want desserts I have a friend who is a whiz. She’s a pastry chef, you’d love her.
Merrick: That is kind of you.
Ronnie: Sure! The more the merrier, man.
Merrick: What do you have planned tonight?
Ronnie: Not much. Working and then probably just coming back home. You?
Merrick: Sitting, looking out the living room window. Do you have far to go between work and home?
Ronnie: Yeah? You should go do something fun. It’s like a super short distance here. Small town and all. You know?
Merrick: This can be fun with a drink and a book. I know. But as always, full moon.
Ronnie: Yeah, full moon.
Merrick: You’ll be alright, Ronnie.
Ronnie: Thanks.
Merrick: You’re welcome. Is there anything I can talk about to distract you from the thing int he sky?
Ronnie: Nah, I’m good. Thanks for checking in on me though. I really appreciate it.
Merrick: You’re welcome.
