Celeste watched Rhiannon talk, listening closely. It was a perspective that she hadn't really considered before. When she walked out of her family's life, she thought it had to be black and white. That if she acted tough enough, heartlessly enough, then she could avoid ending up where her mother had. Could avoid letting anyone's words sway her to betray what she really wanted, even though she had no idea what that was then. But there were things about herself that would never have existed without her father or the way she was brought up. A self-reliance and a resilience. The ability to adapt.
