The sound of leaves underfoot made it almost impossible to cross the area beneath the branches silently, and he didn't hear her whisper. Reaching the other side of the clearing he found a place to duck into once he'd finished playing 'bait'. He pulled out a dead branch that had been caught across the gap, looked at it, and figured he could use it to help make noise. At the sound of the whistle from up above he quickly glanced up, spied where there was the vague outline of the hunter, and judged where the best place was to stand.
He was stepping out to stand there when the branch caught on something, tangling his legs and sending him skidding across the next row of headstones. A few rich expletives sounded, but were suddenly cut off mid-word, a silence falling for a few seconds then being rent by a shouted, "What the FUCK?!" followed by scrambling footsteps and jangling metal.
JD appeared, a stumbling run as he looked over his shoulder then ahead again, remembering at the last second the actual purpose of this effort and managing to head in the right direction to draw the following creature beneath the branches.
