The badge could open doors if used just right. The clubs in the city could be notoriously difficult to work with -- one of the few helpful pieces of information that Annie's superiors had offered when she came to Nevada -- but thankfully, someone in management seemed to actually be concerned about the disappearance Annie was investigating and they were giving her more leave than she might otherwise have expected. It felt good to be doing real work for a change; even better to not be obsessing over the dumpster fire of evidence that Brett had emailed her.
Kayleigh Miller was real. Her disappearance was documented. There were no unusual aspects to the case, sad as it may seems; women had a nasty habit of going missing all the time, after all. It just made for a good case for Annie to sink her teeth into.
Stepping into the backstage area at Iris was a little less ordinary, however. Spying one of her last interviewees, Annie passed a momentary thought at what her mother would think of a place like this.
