Looking for a location Who: Radek & Brianna Where: Brasserie le Breeze When: Present
Radek flicked the screen sending it scrolling a little quicker than he wanted, making him stab at it and slowly scroll it back up. His face was furrowed with lines as he frowned at the tablet, and he felt the hand on his shoulder before he realised anyone was standing beside him.
"What has you so engrossed tonight?" Brianna asked. She'd seen the immortal peering at his tablet most of the evening, and even the waitstaff had commented he was decidedly distracted. "You're here, but you're not," she added, looking at the screen as Radek angled it for her to see.
"I'm looking for a location, a place where I can carry out some work on a ... new delivery I've received. A rather odd delivery," he explained, looking up at the young woman briefly. Displayed on the screen were what appeared to be real estate listings of abandoned businesses and factories. As he scrolled slowly through them it was clear to see they were in a widely varied state of disrepair and abandonment.
Taking in what she was being shown, and the fact the delivery was 'odd' to the man who'd lived countless different lives for over six hundred years on most continents of the world, and died in so many weird and bizarre ways, many of which she'd witnessed through his memories, Brianna's eyebrows arched. "Dare I ask what this delivery is?"
Radek huffed a soft laugh, shaking his head with a rueful smile. "I don't know that I can even answer that," he admitted, "mainly because as yet I don't actually know. It looks human, and I have received a dossier of information on the history but am still to actually discover what that history has ... created?"
That made Brianna's fingers tighten on his shoulder a little. "Radek, where, or who, did you get this ... 'item' from?" she asked, the hint of concern clear in her voice.
He patted her hand on his shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze and inviting her to sit. Normally she didn't, but this had her pull the chair out and lower herself, understanding his preference for a little more privacy. He then proceeded to give her a brief summation of the events of the night he patched together the vampiress, and the pursuant arrival of the promised item.
Brianna swallowed, a slightly ill feeling stirring and unsettling her stomach as her skin crawled, listening to what he told her. She shuddered at various times as Radek related the circumstances of the 'delivery's' creation. "And so I have decided to find another location to conduct the investigations," he told her in conclusion. "And I'll be honest with you, I will feel much better once it is secured in another location."
"I'm sure!" Brianna nodded, unsure why she felt a little faint, and silently glad she'd agreed to sit as he'd told her about the 'delivery'. She glanced at the tablet then at Radek. "Is there anything there? It's a pity Jake left again," she added, knowing the immortal was rather good at securing properties suitable for what other immortals were seeking.
"Yes, though I did call him, but he wasn't available, and I haven't really got the time to wait for him to call back," Radek replied with a sad smile. He did miss his friend, there weren't many he could be completely relaxed with, and Jake had been a particularly trustworthy friend and fencing partner, something that was becoming more and more challenging to find in this age.
He sighed and picked up the tablet again. "I've found a few places, none of them exactly what I'm looking for, but I need to find somewhere sooner rather than later so I will look at these, starting tomorrow, and hope to find one that will make do, at least for the time being. Once I've found somewhere I'll need to contact one of our magic-users to install some protections, there are a number of sigils and marks that I'm not completely familiar with and definitely not in these combinations, so it might be prudent to have some help in ensuring that whatever they are protecting or controlling, I am prepared for."
Brianna's hand moved to her ribcage, a burning sensation making itself felt as she listened. That, and her back straightening, were both odd, unfamiliar feelings, and a brief frown of concern flashed across her face.
Radek's head was already lowered a little, his eyes again scanning the screen, not noticing the young woman's discomfort, his screen reflecting in his glasses.
"Please be careful, Radek," she said as she stood, again placing her hand on his shoulder.
He looked up at her, blinking then offering a reassuring smile. "That I shall, my dear," he told her reassuringly. "After all, if I didn't fulfil my promise to Cassandra... well she'd have my head!" he laughed, Brianna joining him, the joke one only the two of them understood.
