The nightmare just out of sight
When: Early Friday morning
The sheets lay in an unfamiliar tangle forcing Brianna to tug and wriggle to escape their hold. Finally she was standing beside the bed, looking down at the bed linen. Pillows were tossed about, sheets tugged out from beneath the mattress, doona lying in a crumpled heap on the floor. It resembled a scene where an exuberant wrestling match had taken place, which was definitely not what had happened.
Pulling her thick terry toweling bath robe on over her satin pyjamas she tugged her hair back, running her fingers through it then scooping it up automatically to secure it in a bun on top of her head. She straightened the pillows and at least the top sheet, which was now half hanging on the floor.
Crossing to her window she sat down, knees tucked together and elbows resting on them as she leaned her chin on the heel of her hand, staring out at the start of a new day. The odd dreams had started a few nights earlier, not what she could call 'bad', not nightmares, but definitely not leaving anything but a feeling of discomfort and unease in her when she woke. She had no idea what they contained, it was more a blur, a black and grey darkness, sounds that could almost be described as snarls, and flashes of yellow and white that left the feeling of unease.
She ran through her memory, sifting through the many events she'd 'witnessed' thanks to the immortals, trying to find any resemblance, figuring it could be that she was just remembering something she'd experienced with them. But nothing came from that. There was something niggling at her, out on the periphery of her memory, but she couldn't quite grasp it, and after a while she sighed, stood up and made her way to her bathroom. It was Friday, and she had a final round of interviews with three candidates for the role of assistant manager, and she needed to prepare for that.
