Ronnie + OPEN to literally anyone
When he made a promise, Ronald Christopher Milam delivered on it.
His morning and most of the day was spent in Vegas. It was a Thanksgiving tradition even before his mother had gone up to her mansion in the sky. For as long as he could remember, before he left for New York, it had been just himself, his mother, and the Holy Spirit on Thanksgiving until he was around ten years old. With the spirt of the holiday in mind, Rose Milam began the tradition of helping families in need who didn’t have much of their own to provide to their loved ones. So, before their own Thanksgiving meal (which was always sparse yet home cooked) they would go and give back to the community where it was needed.
Ronnie had been fond of the Soup Kitchen - last year he met a young girl and her mother, amongst a few other regulars he already had come to know by name, and this year he was both sad and blessed to have seen them again. The girl, Janique, had turned six years old the day before. Last year, Ronnie had given her some colored pencils and a sketchbook. This year, Janique had given Ronnie a picture she had drawn and colored of them tighter for him and it had made the whole day that much better.
That little drawing had been carefully folded and had stayed in the pocket of his flannel shirt for the duration of the day, part of it stuck up from the little alcove he had tucked it in as if it were posing as a kerchief for decoration.
And then once he arrived home it was time to prep for food. He arrived promptly before six p.m. to help set up and get things organized. Ronnie made all sorts of sides one might find at Thanksgiving: mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, and his Mama’s apple pie (of course). Plus, in the spirit of togetherness, he brought and hooked up a literal fountain of cheese for Ro. Well, it was for everyone, but mostly to cheer up his friend who wasn’t looking like herself lately.
When that was done and he felt satisfied with it, to keep himself from fussing with the plates and reorganizing everything on the bar, he helped himself to a drink and looked around for anyone who might need a chat.
