He flattened the map of the northwest, pulling the creases out and running his eyes over the web of lines drawn across different coloured patches that indicated cities, towns, and forests. Each line represented a road, a river, or a railway. His gaze focused in on an area that had the least number of lines and the greatest patch of green. Slowly a smile spread across his face and he nodded to himself.
As much as he'd like to take the bike he knew it wasn't the most practical choice for the two of them so he folded the paper back down to its original size and tucked it into the duffle he'd dragged out of the storage cupboard. A few items of clothing, and other things, and he'd be packed. Nothing could wipe the smile off his face as he shouldered the bag and headed back up to his cabin, locking the door of the boatshed behind him.
