He’d come to a decision that thinking with his dick wasn’t in his best interest. Marsh liked Nobu, and Nobu’s thoughts never made him feel like crap because he could never understand them. He pulled up the contact and pressed the call button, waiting on the other end with his nerves lighting up.
Nobu had been sleeping when the familiar sound of his phone's ringtone hit his ears. He let out a groan, turning over on the couch and dropping a hand down to grab the phone. It took a little feeling around but he managed to find it. It might have been faster if he had opened his eyes but the less time having to deal with the sunlight the better. Reluctantly, he opened his eyes a hair so he could swipe the pick up button.
“Moshi moshi,” he answered, stifling a yawn.
He wasn’t expecting an answer, felt like maybe after that night he might see Marsh’s phone number come up and ignore it. “Uh, hi Nobu, it’s Marsh. Did I wake you? I...I can call back later.” He hoped not, he wasn’t sure if he’d have the guts to go through it later.
Hearing Marsh's voice on the other end prompted Nobu to get his lazy butt up. He hadn't seen or heard from his friend since the whole incident with the lawyer on Samhain. “No it is fine. Been up for hours,” he lied as he stretched. “What's up?”
“I wanted to start by apologizing for leaving so abruptly the other night. I made a mistake not saying goodbye and I regret that.” Not even a text, he’d been so distracted.
The next part was difficult. Besides just being extremely friendly, Nobu hadn’t really expressed any interest in Marsh, at least not anything he could see but he had to take a chance or he would regret it later. “And second, I was wondering if you’d maybe consider going out with me sometime? I understand if I blew it.”
“Hm?” It took him a moment to figure out why Marsh was apologizing, the remnants of sleep still fogging up his mind, but he finally got there. “Oh, that. No worries.” Had it bothered him that he never said another word to him the rest of the night? Briefly. There was too much going on to dwell on it though.
Then Marsh posed the question of going out. “Huh? Blew what?” Nobu was a bit confused. He wasn't sure exactly why he would think he wouldn't want to hang out with him. “Yeah, we can go out.”
Marsh let out a nervous chuckle. It was endearing to him how blissfully oblivious he was. “I mean, I’m asking you on a date, Nobu.” He corrected, hoping at least this time it was more obvious what he was asking.
“Romantically.” He added just to make sure there were no miscommunications.
Nobu paused. “Huh??” Now he was doubly confused. Marsh was asking him out on a date? Despite being over a century old, he’d never actually had any romantic relationships. Hell, he had never really even been on a date, or at least not that he knew of. This was completely new to him which made him want to explore it more. “Romantically? Yeah. Okay. It could be fun.”
Now it was Marsh’s turn to be confused but he wouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth. “Alright. Maybe this weekend? I’ll take you out to dinner.” He realized he didn’t know where a good place to take a date was. Maybe he’d ask Ronnie and hope he didn’t just suggest Terrible’s to spy on their date.
“This weekend is good.” Dinner was good any time, anywhere. He probably needed to be more specific than that though. “Saturday night?”
Marsh smiled and nodded his head. “Great. I’ll figure out a place and text you about it later. See you this weekend.” He said to Nobu and waited for a goodbye before he hung up the phone.
“See you then!” The ending call tone sounded in his ear. A date, huh? The idea of experiencing something new excited him. With a slight spring in his step, Nobu made his way to the kitchen to find some much needed food.
