No Good Reason
He really shouldn’t do this. It’s bad enough he feels sympathy, empathy, whatever the hell it is for Angel, but expressing it? That’s something he can’t understand the urge to do, despite the fact that they’re in the same boat and all. Must be the soul, though it hasn’t done much to make him like Angel any better up to now. Hell, he can’t even say that he actually does like Angel any better, just that he feels some pity for him and a sense of...well...kinship that he hasn’t felt since Angel himself got a soul so long ago.
Frankly, he ought to be gloating. But for that pathetic crush on Cordelia, Angel’s been a-pinin’ after Buffy since he left Sunnydale. At least Spike’s kept his dignity (well, for the most part...winding up with a soul verges on the pathetic, but at least he doesn’t brood) since his own doomed union with the Slayer went the way of the dodo and Darla. But somehow he just can’t muster up the sense of superiority he should feel.
No, he really shouldn't do this, but there’s a moment, now that they’re alone, that feels right, so Spike takes a chance. He kisses Angel. Angel kisses him back. Spike’s not worried about what’s sure to come next. After all, they’ve never made each other happy before. Now won’t be any different.
The End
