Never-ending day might sound swell on paper, but when you were Alice Cullen, and your life involved seeing visions once decisions were made, things took strange turns. Well, to anyone except Alice Cullen. Without a human life to reflect on, all she knew were visions and this otherworldly existence. Her perception of humans was quite different from the rest of the vampires in Forks, and perhaps that's what made it much easier for her in school. She tried to get to know her peers as well as she could -- safely -- so that she would think of them as people, and not Happy Meals on legs. They were no higher, nor lower than she was, and Alice liked herself well enough. She stretched needlessly, twisting at the waist as she'd seen baseball players warming up on the television. Anyone would laugh at the slight girl -- and slight was an understatement; Alice was nearly a midget in most books -- if they saw her, preparing for the Cullen family's own version of baseball. With Emmett, Jasper, and Carlisle around, no one would suspect that Alice was the fastest. Emmett was her main competitor. While she lacked the muscle and strength he did, she did have unbelieveable quickness and grace when it came to acting. Just because she was tiny was no reason for any of them to hold back. And frankly, her visions of the future were cheating, definitely. The Cullen clan had long since stopped playing chess with Edward and Alice. In fact, Edward was the only one who would play with her anymore. "Rosalie?" She called from her room, though it wasn't much louder than a whisper. Rosalie was busy in her bedroom, her head tilting to the side with her long, blonde hair falling over her shoulder. She slowly ran her brush through it, watching it shimmer in the dim light from above her vanity. There were no knots and as the brush smoothly cut down, she could help but smile a bit to herself. She would have died to have had hair like this in her former life - and as she did in order to get it, she was rather pleased. Truthfully, Rosalie was a bit pleased that Edward wasn't home. Yes, she did enjoy looking at her reflection and enjoying her more pleasing vampire gifts. However, she also knew that without Edward being there meant she didn't have to deal with listening to his sarcastic remarks that he muttered under his breath from rooms away. His gift had a tendency to get incredibly old. But, Rosalie stopped her primping and staring into the mirror the second she heard Alice's whisper. She let out a breath that would have hardly been audible to the human ear as she set her brush down and floated to her feet and then down the hallway. Standing outside of Alice's door, she didn't even before to knock before pushing the door open. "Yes?" For a split second, Alice thought to ask the quintessential girl question: "Does this outfit make me look fat?" But she knew that Rosalie wouldn't stand for it, given that Alice had been starved before she'd become a vampire, and she hadn't gained a single ounce since then. "Edward can't make up his mind. He's changed it so much that I don't think I'll play up to par today -- headache, you know..." Alice rubbed her lotioned hands over one another. Sure, she didn't need it, but she enjoyed it. What good was being a vampire if you couldn't enjoy being one? "He keeps thinking he'll come back to kill Swan just to get it over with, or that he'll come back and not kill her and deal with it. Or not come back at all." Rosalie found her thoughts lingering on Alice's first comment before thinking about Edward. Not playing up to par? Really? Well, perhaps she ought to rethink strategy. If she could manage being on Emmett's team against Alice they had a good chance of winning - especially if Edward was busy occupying her mind with his prattling. Hmmm. "Well, he'd better not kill her," Rosalie replied, crossing her arms in front of her and standing just inside the door. "I don't want to move again. I've grown used to it here and I'm not ready to move on." Alice watched Rosalie, knowing that she'd been rethinking her strategy. Just what Alice had been hoping. Hey, she wasn't above using her gift if Rosalie and Emmett weren't. The only one who might have a problem with using his was Jasper. He was just too honorable sometimes. "If he comes back here, we're going to have to be here for him. He's going to struggle. A lot. So much so that he will never be the same Edward, Rosalie," Alice said, and this time, there was a warning edge in her voice. Outside of Jasper, Edward was Alice's best friend, they really were more like siblings than real siblings at times. "And when he doesn't kill her --" Though she'd said when, she definitely meant if. "-- we will never be the same again." Rosalie sighed, her fingers reaching up and slowly running through her hair the same way her brush had been just moments ago. She should have brought it with her, she thought to herself. "Naturally," she replied, her tone rather dismissive as she inspected the end of her hair as though it would have split ends. It wasn't that she didn't care about Edward - she really did. She just was rather tired of his Edward-ness. Would it kill him (ha) to smile once in a while? "I will be as supportive as ever." So long as he doesn't make us leave, she decided to herself with a raised eyebrow at Alice. "Mm-hmm,"Alice said, a tiny smile puckering her otherwise "stern" look. Ignoring their serious conversation, she grabbed Rosalie's hands without any warning and spun around with her. "I'm so glad it's going to rain today! It's been too long with all this sunshine and grey!" If nothing else, Alice was a rather bubbly personality. She liked to keep her siblings on their toes. Rosalie had to laugh as she happily spun around the room with her sister. It was impossible not to get wrapped up with Alice's cheerful self. It was just infectious. As she spun, though, she knew that she agreed wholeheartedly with the sentiments. Forks was incredibly boring and while she wasn't ready to uproot everything just yet, she was happy to know that something enjoyable was going to happen. "I am, too!" Rosalie grinned, pausing to fix her hair. "It feels like we haven't played in forever and maybe if we do this there won't be constant wrestling going on." She had to stop and smile, only because the thought of wrestling made her think of Emmett. "I was thinking," Alice told Rosalie conspiratorily, a devious smile spreading across her angelic face. "The next time it's sunny out, we should go shopping, somewhere grey, of course, but shopping. I can be on the lookout for one of the major cities like LA or New York or Chicago for a grey day at the same time, if you want?" "Let this be my official vote for New York," Rosalie grinned in return, showing each and every one of her teeth. Shopping was definitely in the stars. It would be good to get some time away. Her grin didn't tone down in the least when she tilted her head and added, "Notice that I pick the place that is as far away from here as we can possibly get." "As always," Alice laughed, and she was suddenly reminded that Edward thought it sounded like a bell. "Besides, we always go somewhere on the West Coast. If there's enough sunny days in a row, maybe Paris or London might be good. London, definitely. It's almost always overcast there." "Oh, Europe," Rosalie replied, her voice a bit dreamy and her eyes faraway. Her thirst to be somewhere - anywhere - more exciting than Forks was starting to get even worse than the one she normally battled with. "When was the last time we were over there? And Paris?" She stopped and gave Alice a sly smile. "Is it too late to change my vote?" "Alas, dear Rosalie," Alice chirped. "It all depends on the sun in Forks. Even I can't see that far into the future." Downstairs, she could make out the sounds of restless boys, and knew that Jasper had decided he would come up there in five minutes if they weren't down. "We'd better get going. Jazz and Emmett are on the 'warpath' today. They want to outdo each other, and I think it's going to turn into another match, if you know what I mean." Rosalie pretending to look exasperated at the thought, but she knew that Alice would know better. It wasn't a secret to any of them family just how madly in love with Emmett she was and she adored watching him wrestle and show off - even if she tried her hardest to make it seem as though she thought it was silly. Swinging her hair over her shoulder, she floated a few steps toward the door and then offered her arm to Alice with a smile. "Then let's not keep them waiting!" |
