RP: On the Prowl
Characters: Dominique Weasley and OPEN
Time/Date: Evening, August 22nd, 2023.
Location: Leaky Cauldron
Warnings/Rating: None
Summary: Dominique goes out for the evening.
Status: Open

Sometimes, Dominique just needed a break. And it was one of those times.

The Ministry was still in an uproar over the return of the dead. Who could blame them? It was positively mad, and even though they had irrevocable proof, it was still difficult to digest. Dominique had been absolutely swamped with paperwork, and had been pulling longer hours in the office. Someone had to try to organize the mess of incomplete paperwork that the Ministry was trying to fill out on the returned dead, and that she happened to be that someone. Or at least one of those someones.

Which is why, even though it was only Tuesday, Dominique was feeling pretty burnt out. And the best remedy for being burnt out - for Dominique, at least - was a good drink and a little bit of flirting. She liked to be reminded, when feeling run-down, that she still had that allure for which her fractional Veela blood was known. A little attention could go a long way.

After she finally managed to escape the Ministry, she headed home to change into something befitting a pub environment - not to mention something that accented her best physical features - and then apparated to Diagon Alley. After a moment of consideration, she headed to the Leaky Cauldron. It wasn't her favorite pub, but it received a decent amount of traffic, which increased her chances of meeting someone worthwhile for the evening. She walked inside, placed her drink order, and settled into a seat in order to survey the pub's current clientele.

Vulture roamed into the Leaky and glanced around. Three years away, but not a lot had changed. It was a shame it had taken returning dead for the Ministry to suddenly remember they'd loaned out some Aurors to the States and call them back home.

He wasn't going to fuss though. The Everglades had been swampy, hot, humid, but there'd been some fun shit going on down there and he wasn't too old to appreciate the chase.

Glancing around for familiar faces, his eyes skipped over the younger blonde witch before sliding right back to her. Well, maybe some things had changed. Improved, even. With something of a leer and a grin, he winked in her direction though he didn't for a moment imagine she'd take it for anything but a gesture of appreciation of the view.

But hell, what did he know?

Turning his attention to the bar, he ordered something to eat and a drink before he turned as if looking for a place to sit - which he was, though he was sort of scanning around for other Aurors or Hits to get an unofficial update on the situation - the things Harry hadn't put on paper.

It wasn't too long before Dominique received her first inkling of attention. She smiled warmly in response to the wink, and assessed the man as she did so. He was older than her, but by how much she wasn't sure. Tall, and a bit on the scruffy side, but not unattractive by any means. Dominique could most likely land younger company with ease if she waited a bit longer, but she wasn't known for her patience. Besides, where was in the fun in that?

"There's a seat right here, you know," she called to him when it seemed apparent to her that he hadn't located anyone familiar enough to sit with, gesturing to the chair beside her. "Unless you're waiting for someone?"

"Hell, hardly anyone knows I'm back in the country," he assured her. Once he had his food and drink in hand, he sauntered on over to her table. "But I don't want t'scare off any of the younger blokes if you were fishin'," he added even as he sat down.

She looked young, but not jail-bait young, so he supposed he was safe enough. Not that he was planning anything, but sometimes things happened.

"Might make 'em think you hired a guard dog," he added with a wink before extending a hand to her. "Vulture," he introduced himself. He always got a kick out of seeing reactions to his name, but he despised his given name.

So Vulture it was.

Dominique was a bit surprised at his accent, but even more surprised by his name. "Vulture. How...interesting. That's a name I haven't heard before." She wondered who had given the name to him

As she accepted his hand, she said, "I'm Dominique. As for the younger blokes, I'm not worried about them, especially not if they balk at the sight of someone bigger." Cowardice was so unappealing, anyway.

"Where have you been? Your accent sounds a bit...American?" she asked with a bit of hesitation, wondering if her guess was correct. She sipped her drink.

"Pleasure to meet you," he said. He did grin at the comment about his name. "I'm the only Vulture I've ever met," he agreed - but really, who besides a guy like him would voluntarily take on a name that brought up such ugly connotations? "I met a bloke who called himsel Wolf once, but no others with animal names."

He gestured to the basket of chips to indicate she could help herself to some - he knew how to share, after all - while he took a bite of his sandwich.

"The States," he agreed once he'd swallowed. "Loaned out to the American wizards to deal with some bullshit - pardon my French - they had goin' on down in the Florida Everglades. Fun times, lots of booze, but it's good to be back home," he declared. "What about you?" He inquired. "What branch of our world has you yoked?"

"No thank you," Dominique said in response to the offer to share. She was more than content with her drink, which she sipped as Vulture talked.

"Sounds like quite the adventure," she replied to his explanation. "I've never been to America. I was born and raised here in England - Cornwall. My mother is French, though, and I have extended family in France." She gave a slight shrug. She found his diction interesting, and figured he spoke that way as a result of being around Americans for a prolonged period of time.

"So what are you? Auror? Hit Wizard? Or is that confidential?"

"Most people 'round here are," he agreed. "Born and raised, I mean. Sometimes you'll find folk from Wales or Scotland, but in the end it's all the same island, right?" He grinned and took another bite of his sandwich. He'd definitely missed the food here, and was happy to be back to it.

"Auror," he shared after he'd swallowed. "You?" Three years was a long time, and that meant there were at least three new classes that had been released into the job field. For all he knew, she was one of the Auror trainees and he'd be seeing lots of her.

He didn't think so though; she didn't really have the air of an Auror about her.

"I work at the Ministry. Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Which means I may have come across your file before..." Dominique trailed thoughtfully, though in reality, it was improbable, especially since he had been out of the country. Besides, she'd surely remember if she saw anything stamped with the name "Vulture."

"I'm not the adventurous type," she added. "I tend to air more on the side of paperwork than Everglades." She visually surveyed Vulture and decided that he definitely looked the part of an Auror.

"I have a few friends there," he said. "Good friend of mine's pretty high up on the court. Landed himself on the Wizengamot a few years ago," he continued with a slight grin.

"Come across my file. Likely as not. If anything, it'll be on the list to be sorted back to the 'in England' pile or whatever they've got going on for that. However you sort organize your records." He relied completely on the file clerks to get anything for him that he needed from the library.

He'd tried once to find a map there on his own and had been chased out by the librarian.

"Paperwork suits some sorts," he agreed. "Not me. I was always a doer. Even when I was just a pup, I was a doer. No one ever told me Aurors have to file reports; otherwise I think I might've taken another position."

At least they didn't have it as bad as he heard Hits had it - especially if they killed their target.
