RP: Evening Reading
Characters: Noah, Lily
Time/Date: Evening, Wednesday October 12
Location: Gryffindor Common Room
Warnings/Rating: None
Summary: Round two ... fight?
Status: Complete

Noah was stretched out on a couch he was starting to think of as 'his.' It was near the fire and he'd managed to snag it the last couple of nights when he felt like reading, but not being up alone in the dorms.

He did like it here, but he missed some of his friends that hadn't been chosen for the trip, especially after his rather interesting walk with Lily. He was trying not to let it get to him, but he just couldn't figure out how he had so handily misjudged her sense of humor. Blowing out a sigh, he tried to refocus on his Potions book.

Not everyone got along with everyone else, anyway. That was just life.

Of course, she was really pretty and he liked how she said whatever was on her mind. Kissing her had felt good and she had a nice laugh when she wasn't being completely frustrating and ridiculous.

The wizard rolled his eyes at himself. Yeah, he was getting a lot of reading done.

Her map was jutting out of her back pocket as she strolled back into the commons, her hair unbound and dangling in her face. She'd been up watching the Ravenclaw practice to cheer on Tris and Lan.

Or to loudly yell critiques at the team until the captain threatened to silence-charm her. It was kind of the same thing, really.

Once she stepped into the commons, she wished she'd checked the map. Dark eyes rolled slightly as she saw Noah on the couch. Well. Whatever. Things were awkward now anyway.

Times like this, she wished Meg was in her house. Or Hugo. Hell, she almost wished James was around at this point. "You shouldn't take up the whole couch you know," she said as she flopped into a nearby chair. "Other people might want to sit there."

She brushed her hair back and regarded him with slightly narrowed eyes. While part of her knew she was being ridiculous and it was because of Jamie that she was so defensive about her aim and he had no way of knowing that ... it still rubbed at her.

He saw her come in and then stared very hard at his book, pretending to read. It was funny how when you were trying not to look at something -- or someone -- you were almost hyper aware of the fact that they were there.

And then she greeted him in such a polite and charming way and apologized for over-reacting ... yeah, he couldn't even finish that thought.

Blue eyes peered over the cover of his book and he arched a brow, "If that is your way to ask if you may sit next to me, you will 'ave to be a little nicer to get me to comply," he informed her casually before returning his gaze to the Potions text.

He was still aware that she was sitting nearby, of course. Which he found annoying.

Lily snorted. "I don't want to sit next to you," she assured him. "If I wanted you off the couch I'd just hex you. Pretty sure I could at least manage to hit the couch."

She eyed him and wished she had a book to pretend to be reading so she'd have something else to do between sniping at him.

Well, she had her map, anyway. Shifting around in the chair, she slipped it out of her pocket, along with her wand. Touching her wand to the paper, she mumbled carefully. "I solemnly swear I am up to no good."

Opening it up, she checked the usual spots for anything interesting.

He really didn't understand why she was holding on to this so hard. He'd just been playing with her; he knew absolutely nothing about what kind of aim she had. Perhaps she really did have bad aim and he had hit a nerve?

Laying his book down on his chest, he tilted his head to gaze over at her. "I was not serious about your aim, you know. I do not think badly of it. I was just trying to play ... to ... tease," he tried to explain, unsure if it was even worth the effort.

"Do you react so badly to all jokes or am I a special case?" Noah was also curious what she was looking at, but he hardly thought a curious inquiry would go over so well right now.

"Special case," she said as she tracked one of the foreign girls on the map. Maybe it was just her, but that Sasha chick was spending a lot of time near the professor's hallway.

She sighed. "I'm sorry, all right? But my brother used to pick on me about that all the time. It isn't even bad. Not like Uncle Ron's was or anything." Granted, Ron had gotten significantly better as he got more confident, but still. There'd been stories. "So, whatever," she muttered as she turned her attention to the Slytherin commons to see if Al was there.

Then she glanced to the common-commons, figuring Meg was there. If Hugo was there, too, she thought she might go whine to them about stupid French boys channeling James.

Ah, well, how skilled of him to pick out one of the things to set off her temper. At least that made sense.

"All right," he agreed. "Then can we pretend I teased you about something less offensive to you? Or that I said nothing wrong at all and you only found me charming and per'aps 'andsome?"

He grinned, pushing himself up to a sitting position, finding it a little strange to be lying flat on his back for this conversation. "Or 'ave I ruined the chance that we may be friends by unknowingly saying the wrong thing when I was just trying to 'ave fun with you?"

"Ruined it," she assured him as she glanced to the potions classroom in hopes of seeing her grandmother there. No dice though. Her mum was in her office. Professor Silver was in ... Professor Longbottom's room. Huh. Not like she didn't know about that, but ... still.

She glanced to the 'claw commons, but the team apparently hadn't made it back up yet. But then, their match was up next so they were probably having strategy discussions or something down in the locker room.

"You might be able to make it up to me though," she offered generously.

"Might I?" He inquired, his brows arching as he craned his neck a little, trying to see what she was looking at so intently.

Finally, he gave into his curiosity and inquired, "What is that?"

He wasn't sure if he expected her to actually answer him, but at least they had established that it was apparently her brother's fault that she over-reacted to his teasing. He certainly knew never to tease about her aim anymore, unless perhaps he was interested in seeing how good it really was.

"Yup. You might," she offered as she stole a brief glance at him. "You'll have to figure out how though," she added smugly.

She shrugged her shoulders to his question. "Just a map of Hogwarts," she said as she tapped it again, mouthing the words to make it inert before she started to fold it up again.

"Suppose it gives me an edge in finding my way around," she added with a little grin. Jamie would probably have a fit if he knew she was displaying the map in front of anyone not family, and she imagined Sirius would completely flip if he found out.

He shook his head with amusement. It sounded like a lot of work for a girl who might just make him crazy all the time, but what else did he have to do here at the moment? Study? Psh.

"Ah, they should give out maps to us, non?" Noah suggested teasingly, though it wasn't a bad idea. But surely if everyone had maps, the foreign students would have been given them too. So he wasn't really convinced that it was a map of Hogwarts she had.

"What did you do to it?" He asked curiously, watching her tap it and start to fold it up.

"They wouldn't give you this sort of map," she said. "This is the only one that exists currently." She was also still keeping it hostage from Sirius, who seemed to forget about the map often enough that it was hardly fun anymore.

But she'd hold onto it out of principle.

"But you're right. Maybe I'll draw up a basic sketch map and make copies for you guys. You know, highlighting the exits and the lake and the forest and the good places to snog. That's about all you guys need, right?"

"And 'ow did you come to 'ave the one and only copy?" Noah asked, unsure whether he thought she was making up a story or not. Either way, he was curious.

Rolling onto his side, he stretched back out on the couch so he was once again taking up all of it and propped himself up by his elbow. Amused at how often she brought up snogging, he grinned and shrugged one shoulder thoughtfully.

"Do not forget where we eat," he reminded her. "That is per'aps just as important as where to snog."

"My grandfather and his mates made it when they were in school. So it passed to my father, and then my big brother, and then to me." Well. So it didn't pass directly from James to Harry, but the point was the same - he'd gotten the map they'd made.

"Eating's pretty obvious though. I mean, everything goes on in the Great Hall, and ..." Lily sighed. "Fine. I'll put that on the map, too." She looked thoughtful. "Suppose you'll want the dorms on here too, like sleeping is important to you lot."

Noah looked thoughtful for a moment before he shrugged one of his shoulders once more. "As long as you put the 'ouse common rooms, I believe we should all be able to find the dorms from there," he grinned.

"In theory, at least. I would like to think we are all able to figure out that much," if some of his school mates were within earshot, he would have teased them.

"I'd like to think that, too," Lily said. "Suppose I should go upstairs and get started on that then. Sketching out a map for you foreign lot."

Standing up, she stretched her arms up over her head before she tucked the map back into her pocket. "Unless you had something else more interesting than drawing up a map to entertain me?"

"Per'aps later," he responded teasingly, rolling onto his back once more and retrieving his book that had fallen onto the floor at some point. "For now, I will encourage you to make our map."

With a grin, he began to flip through the pages of his book to find his place. Anyway, he had to think of some way to 'make it up to her,' ignoring the fact that she should probably be the one making up her irrational behavior to him.

"Laying on the couch isn't doing much to encourage me," she pointed out with a grin before she shrugged and started for the stairs. All the rest of her entertaining things were upstairs in her trunk anyway.

Maybe she'd even get around to a map, but she thought she had some homework she should take care of first ...
