RP: Finding the French Boy
Characters: Lily, Noah
Time/Date: Sunday Afternoon
Location: 5th floor, moving to ...?
Warnings/Rating: None
Summary: Lily finds the lost French boy
Status: Complete

After a brief consultation with the map - which she still had - Lily discerned Noah's location. She changed into a skirt and fixed her hair before spritzing herself with a vanilla body spray. She debated makeup but opted against it.

Hurrying down the stairs once she was out of the commons, she made her way to the room that Noah was lost in. How on Earth he'd gotten trapped upstairs when he was looking for downstairs, she couldn't begin to guess.

But then, between moving stairs and walls that looked the same ... and trick hallways ... well, one might get a little lost.

Swinging into the room, Lily paused just inside the door. "Hello, I've come to fetch a lost French boy?" she called to the room.

"Bonjour," he called, stepping out from behind one of the suits of armor he'd been inspecting. He would have sworn he'd heard one of them make a noise that sounded suspiciously like laughter, but he hadn't heard it again. Perhaps it was just a student wandering by.

"Or hello," he corrected himself, though bonjour was pretty easily translated, but he was still trying to get into the habit of speaking English.

He smiled, recognizing her from the common room. She was pretty and quite interested in their arrival, as far as he could tell.

"This is backwards, non? I am supposed to be rescuing the damsels, not being rescued by one." His accent was noticeable, but he spoke English easier than a number of his school mates and didn't seem to worry too much about tripping over or choosing the wrong words.

"Well, damsels tend to find their way into distress. Me, not so much," Lily said. She studied him for a moment, a little smile tugging at her lips. "So, you'd be one of the temporary Gryffindors then," she murmured. "'least I know which common room to lead you back to."

She paused. "Or were we going out to the lake?" That had been his goal, right? When he'd somehow gotten stuck up here.

"I'm Lily, by the way," she said. "Not ... completely sure introductions were covered," she added. Really, if she remembered all their names by the end of the month, it'd be a miracle.

"I am Noah," he replied with a smile, giving her a half, playful bow, "and I would like to see the lake, if you did not mind."

He'd met an awful lot of people so far too and wasn't completely sure if he'd been properly introduced to her. He didn't think so, though, he was pretty sure he would have remembered her for her hair, if nothing else.

"'owever, if you 'ad better places to be, I would settle for a walk to the front door," he offered in compromise, gesturing for her to lead on.

"I don't mind," Lily said. "I can introduce you to our giant squid before it goes into hibernation," she offered. "I don't really have anything better to do," she continued as she started to lead him out of the room and down the hall. She had things she should be doing - like homework - but those were hardly better than showing a cute guy to their lake.

"So how do you like Hogwarts so far?" she inquired as she trotted down a set of stairs before angling toward another corridor. "Colder, right? Funny how we're warmer than Durmstrang but colder than you guys," she continued as she slowed down so he could fall in beside her and they could talk.

He caught up with her easily enough, falling into step beside her. He was a little amused at how chatty she seemed and he wondered if some of his school mates had trouble keeping up with her.

"It is colder, oui. Darker. I like it, though. I 'ave to admit that might be 'ow I got lost. I wandered more than I actually looked for a way out," he smiled and shrugged his shoulders. "It worked out for me, non? Now I have a pretty guide and I still get to see the lake."

"I could show you up to the edge of the forest, too," she offered. "Not ... actually into it, but ... sometimes you can glimpse things that live there."

Well. Very rarely, but hey. They might get lucky and see a flash of unicorn or something.

While Lily didn't miss the bit about a pretty guide, she opted not to bite just yet. Maybe he flattered everyone, and she wasn't going to be so quick to fall for it. If that's what it was.

Bounding down the last set of stairs, she led him toward one of the side doors nearer the infirmary, though it wasn't on the lake side and they'd have to take the long way around the front of the castle.

He was trying to pay attention to how they actually made it out of the castle, but he supposed it didn't matter too much. He'd figure it out eventually or just ask people to wander around with him when he felt like it. Having company wasn't so bad.

"Oui, that would be nice," he agreed, eager to explore as much of the grounds as he could.

"Does it take long for your younger students to learn the castle?" He asked curiously, glancing down at her as they walked. "The moving stair cases seem ... troublesome."

"Depends on the kid, whether they have siblings here that already told them, and how brave they are about exploring on their own to find the short cuts and passages."

Lily stepped out onto the grounds, holding the door for him. "The main door's that way. This is just the side door near the infirmary. Handy for quick ins for quidditch accidents."

She started along toward the front of the castle and subsequently the lake since he'd wanted to see that. They could circle back down toward the forest later.

"How long do you think it'll take the quickest one of your lot to learn the castle?"

"Mm, it is difficult to say," he mused thoughtfully, following her out onto the grounds. "There are a few who will want to learn all the secrets as quickly as they can. Others might hide in the commons until they are forced to leave."

He grinned, shrugging his shoulders. "I will learn it in a month," he decided, unsure if that was an impressive boast or not. He thought there was at least a little truth behind it though.

"I learn by getting lost, you see," he clarified in case she (rightfully) doubted his directional skills.

"Really? I couldn't imagine going to your school and just hanging out in the commons the whole time." But then, she wasn't a shy, hiding sort. She'd be the sort wandering around everywhere and contemplating ways to peek into the headmaster's office.

Walking quickly, she pointed out interesting things within view - Hagrid's hut, the pitch, the edge of the forest, the greenhouses - before they arrived at the lake.

"Ta-da!" She said with a grand gesture. "Our lake. The first years take the boats from the station," she pointed in the general direction, "to the castle. Then the boats are stored in the boat house," she added with a point toward it. "Decent place for snogging in the early fall or from late spring on, if you don't mind the damp."

"Non, I could not imagine either," he agreed and perhaps he was exaggerating a little bit. Hogwarts was very different from their school, but he figured people would adjust eventually. Maybe after the winter. Personally, he was looking forward to snow.

"Very impressive," he admired, blue eyes scanning the lake and he quirked an amused grin when she mentioned it was a good place to snog.

"It is very kind of you to share your kissing secrets." He just couldn't call it snogging. It sounded too silly. Maybe it would grow on him, though.

"Oh, not mine. I haven't snogged over there yet. Or anywhere, really," she admitted with a shrug. "Haven't found the right bloke to have a try with. But I was going to find one this year, even before I knew we'd have a dozen new blokes in the building," she confessed.

"Of course, Hans is trying to convince me I should have a try with one of the Durmstrang boys. What d'you think? I told him I'd have to try one of each, but so far no volunteers from either."

She sighed dramatically. "Maybe my standards are just too high."

Strolling down to the lake shore, she ran her toes over the sand to try to uncover some rocks to skip. "You know how to skip stones?"

He grinned at how blunt she was and arched his brows as he regarded her, "You just decided this year would be the year for kissing?" That was one way to go about it, he supposed.

"I cannot imagine you 'aving a difficult time finding someone," he answered, even though that wasn't really what she asked. He didn't know if she should be kissing boys from each house or not. "But you know the French are known for our kissing. Per'aps you would be disappointed with a boy from Durmstrang."

Well, it didn't hurt to show a little patriotism, did it?

"I know a little," he replied, smiling as he followed her to the shore. "I can usually do no more than two skips, 'owever."

"Yes. Jamie's not here anymore and Al's not in my house, so there's no threat of big brothers dangling over people who want to try to snog me. So, why not this year?" She'd been curious about it, and she did wonder what the big fuss was.

"Of course I wouldn't have a problem finding someone. It's a matter of whether or not they're the right someone." Lily picked up a stone, hefted it slightly before angling it and releasing for a good four skips and a kind of lame half-skip before it sank.

"But I did hear about the French prowess in kissing. Suppose I should start with the Durmstrang boys first," she mused as she rifled around the sand for another stone. Brushing off the sand, she offered it to Noah.

"Ah, oui, that makes a great deal of sense," he agreed with amusement, wondering if her big brothers were really overprotective or it was just awkward to try to date with them around.

"So what are you looking for, in the right person?" He asked curiously as he took the stone from her, grinning softly. Planting his feet, he drew back and threw the rock, managing two and a half skips. He shrugged in a 'well, it could have been worse' sort of way.

"I am used to oceans. They are not so good for skipping," he explained, though he had been to a lake a time or two.

"We've only been to the ocean once, and it probably wasn't anything like the ones in France. We just went to an English beach, so it was gloomy and the water was dark." Lily shrugged as she shifted to face him.

"I try not to have any preconceptions about what I want in a guy. It makes it really hard to find a match if you've already got a picture in mind, you know? Like, if I said, 'oh, my perfect guy has long blond hair and one blue eye and one green eye and an Australian accent', what're the odds of me meeting him?"

Lily grinned. "You know, short of venturing down to Australia. I just ... want a guy who can make me laugh and is smart and is as brave as I am, because I can't deal with chickens," she declared.

"The beaches I 'ave been to look as if they could be on a ... postcard," he grinned, deciding he wasn't really a very good descriptor. "Blue skies, beautiful water. Lots of sand."

He was about to point out that she had said it was a matter of finding a guy who was the right someone, but then she clarified what she wanted and he nodded.

"And 'ow brave are you, Lily?" He asked with a teasing lilt, leaning down to pick up another rock. It wasn't very smooth, though, and he doubted it would be any good for skipping.

"Brave to the point of stupid," she admitted. "My father is convinced I'm going to give him a heart attack someday." She scoffed. "I've gotten a little smarter about it, anyway, now that I'm contemplating admitting that I'm growing up."

She knew, really, she couldn't really be stupid-reckless as an adult. It just ... wouldn't work. "So, how brave are you, Noah?" she challenged as she rested her hands on her hips to regard him.

How brave was he. That felt like a loaded question to him and an amused grin that he tried to hold back (and obviously failed) curved his lips as he gazed down at her.

He leaned in quickly and kissed her. It was just a quick peck, really, but his grin widened as he straightened back up and he arched his brows. "I am that brave," he informed her, "Where does that stand on your bravery scale?"

Lily blinked a little in surprise. "Well, I don't know if that really counts as brave. I mean, you pulled back pretty quick, and what was the worst that was going to happen? I slap you?"

Lily shrugged. "I mean, if my mum were here this weekend, and she'd caught you doing that, then ... I could definitely count that as a little braver. But we're here, by the lake, neither of my parents are around ..." she shook her head and sighed.

"I dunno, Noah. Not very brave."

Still, she was a little amused, and a little intrigued, and she was glad she'd never bet with Meghan that her first kiss would be on a dare because Meg probably would've found some technicality that this was a dare.

"You could 'ave 'exed me," he pointed out with amusement and then gestured towards the water, "or pushed me in the lake. It was at least a little brave. There is a giant squid in there."

He knew he was being baited into a longer kiss and he didn't mind at all. Taking a step closer, he placed a hand on her hip as he leaned in once more. This time he claimed her lips more fully and let it linger, his eyes drifting closed.

So far he was very much enjoying this trip. Although, there was a part of him that suddenly wondered if he was about to be pushed into the lake.

"The squid wouldn't hurt anyone," she protested. "We tickle it and feed it crumbs," she added, watching him as he stepped closer. She was suddenly really glad there was absolutely zero chance of her mum showing up ... though she really hoped Al was tucked inside his commons.

Her eyes closed as well as she softly returned the kiss ... before she laughed and pushed him toward the lake. Probably not hard enough to make him fall into it, but likely enough to off-balance him a little so that maybe he'd step into it.

"So, I get to hex you too, right?" she inquired as she slipped out her wand.

Noah took a couple steps to regain his balance, his mouth gaping open with surprised laughter as one of his feet splashed into the water. Stepping out of it, he attempted to shake the water off his boot as best he could, still laughing quietly.

"Oui," he agreed to her question, settling his gaze on her, "but I will defend myself and I am much better at dueling than directions."

He pulled out his own wand, gazing over at her in amusement before sending a jet of water aimed her way with a quick, "Aguamenti!"

It was reflex as much as anything else that had her putting a shield in between them, interrupting the jet of water. She'd grown up with James, after all, and a shield was usually a good precaution.

"Oi! I was just going to dry off your boot!" She protested before aiming her wand down toward his foot to do just that.

"I wouldn't really have hexed you," she pouted. "I don't feel like a trip to the infirmary and a dentention when we can't undo whatever I've done to you."

He tucked his wand away, raising his hands in surrender. "I was just playing. Forgive me for getting carried away. Truce, then?"

Of course he hadn't really expected her to hex him, but he'd thought there might be a playful bit of spell work. He supposed that's what he got for hanging out with rowdy seventeen year old boys all the time ... or for being one.

"Thank you for drying my boot. And I know you would not 'ave 'exed me," he assured her, sucking in his cheeks to keep from laughing as he added, "you would 'ave 'ad to 'it me to do that."

Lily's expression cooled slightly, not really amused by his idea of a joke.

"Are you calling my aim into question?"

She snorted.

"Find your second then. We'll see who's got the better aim Thursday night, in the astronomy tower."

Sure, she'd never done a formal duel before, but he couldn't really expect to make those sort of implications about her and not be challenged, right? She wasn't sure who she'd get for a second. Tris, maybe.

Well, he was on a roll, wasn't he?

Again he raised his hands in surrender and shook his head, "Were you not calling my defense skills into question by claiming you'd put me in the 'ospital wing?

"I was not trying to be cruel and I do not wish to duel you." Repressing a sigh, he rubbed the side of his neck in something between a thoughtful and a sheepish gesture.

"Will you forgive my oafish sense of humor? I do not doubt you 'ave wonderful aim. You managed to get me right into the lake, after all," he raised his brows, offering her a smile.

Lily sighed. Maybe Hans had been on to something with his criticism of the Beauxbatons students.

"Right. Well, if you're too chicken to duel ..." She shrugged. "Suppose I should go find a braver boy."

Lily turned away, sliding her wand back up her sleeve. "You can find your way back in, right?" She inquired over one shoulder as she paused to regard him. She had pointed out the front door on their way over, but either way, it was hard to miss.

Noah rolled his eyes.

"Oui. Thank you for your assistance. It is a pity you are too full of pride to take a joke. I was 'aving a nice time," he shrugged his shoulders, unsure how that had taken such a bad turn.

Oh well. It would be easy enough to find his own way back in, but he'd give her plenty of time to go find a boy who would duel her when she got offended for no reason.
