RP: Less than a Week!
Characters: Meghan, Hugo
Time/Date: Saturday morning, after breakfast
Location: Common-commons
Warnings/Rating: None
Summary: Meghan is kind of excited and would like someone to talk to
Status: Complete

Meghan had gathered up her assignments that she needed to have done by Monday, as well as one that was due on Wednesday, and hauled the required texts and parchments to the new common room. It tended to be slightly more quiet than the regular commons. Meg figured the others simply hadn't worked it into their minds as a place to go yet. But since it was one of the few places she could hang around with Lily and not worry about keeping her voice down, she spent a fair bit of time here.

Slipping off her shoes, she eased herself onto one of the couches, stretching out her legs before bending her knees. Tipping her head back slightly, she sighed and hauled one of her books up against her upraised, slanted thighs. Burying her toes into the part between the couch cushions, Meghan flipped open her text to the necessary page and began to read ... dearly hoping for a distraction of some sort.

Hugo had finished most of the homework he had that was due in the immediate future and he wasn't really in the mood to be a good student and get ahead of the game. He'd checked the 'puff commons first, but hadn't really found any of his friends and so he was forced to roam the castle.

The common commons were his first destination since they seemed to be the most likely place people were hanging around to be social instead of places like the library where there was bound to be school work being done.

When he spotted Meghan, with a book, he grinned and shook his head, moving the stretch out across the back of her couch. "This is hardly the time for studying," he informed her solemnly.

"I know," she admitted. "Couldn't think of anything else to do though." She was a little surprised he wasn't out watching the match, but maybe it hadn't started yet. She was one of the few that had virtually no interest in Quidditch, though since Lils was playing ... she might head out after lunch in a show of support.

"When's the game start?" She asked. He'd probably know. "Suppose we should show up at some point right, for Lily?"

Meghan closed her book but didn't shift herself around. "Excited about the foreign kids coming?" She inquired, which was probably silly - who wasn't excited about that?

He reported the time of the match to her eagerly, though he wished Hufflepuff was playing in this one. He wasn't sure why, since he was sure everyone felt sort of rushed, but he was dying to have a match. Watching one would be an all right substitute though.

"You going to watch?" He asked curiously with just a little bit of skepticism.

Then he grinned and shrugged his shoulders with unconvincing nonchalance, "Nah. Can't really understand what all the fuss is about, really," he teased.

"I might go out after lunch if it's still going on. For Lily," she pointed out to his skeptical look. "I'm surprised she's playing so soon after ... everything." But she supposed Lily wouldn't have been allowed to if the Healer and professor Bell hadn't thought she was recovered enough to be out.

She stuck out her tongue at Hugo. "Oh, you are excited. At least interested," she amended. "I've seen you chatting to them."

She hadn't chatted much, really, but she had been watching the public conversations.

"Should I be offended that you'll watch Lily's matches, but not mine?" He teased her gently, not really offended at all. But given her interest level, he did have to tease her a little bit.

He was glad they had let Lily try out, really. Otherwise, they would have heard about the injustice of it all at least until the foreign kids arrived and distracted her.

"All right, I am excited," he admitted, "well, interested."

Excited was probably closer to the truth, but he decided that interested sounded cooler. More masculine ... or something. "I can't wait to see who's chosen for champion."

"Probably," she agreed. "Can't even make it to my own house matches, but I'll go watch my cousin." She grinned lightly to him.

"Tris and Lan are both putting their names in," she reported. "Since Lan's got a birthday like, the day of, or something. And of course Lily wants to."

She hadn't spoken to Al to see if he was putting in, but she could bet he wasn't.

"But yeah. Be funny if that French guy bragging about being the champion actually gets picked."

He chuckled quietly, easing off the back of the couch and moving around to claim a nearby chair instead.

"D'you think either Tris or Lan will get it?" He asked curiously, unsure. He didn't really know what their magical skill levels were like. "I think I'd put my name in if I was old enough."

He didn't think he'd be chosen, even if he was old enough, but it'd be exciting just to have to chance anyway.

"Would be funny," he agreed, "but I wouldn't really be surprised. I mean, they all must be pretty talented if they're being brought along."

To that, she shrugged. "I don't know. They do sort of creative stuff with their magic. All the pranks they pull, you know? But I guess we'll see." She wondered how the cup judged, and if it was anti-werewolf.

"I guess so. It'll be neat to meet them. Ask them about their school, explain ours." She hesitated. "Do you think ... I mean, I know Durmstrang doesn't let in Muggleborns, right? Do you think they're prejudiced? Like ... I don't know. Like they'll look down on me 'cause of what I am?"

Well, that was true enough. It would be sort of neat if one of them did get it. It would just be cool to be able to be almost friends with the champion, even if they weren't in Hufflepuff.

Frowning softly in response to Meghan's question, he shook his head, "Dunno. Maybe some of them are and some aren't." Which wasn't a very helpful answer, he knew, "Think they'll ever admit Muggleborns? I mean, I'm surprised there are still places that don't."

"Dunno. I mean, who wants to be the first one to break long-standing tradition, right? But maybe someday they'll get a progressive headmaster and starting letting in people despite their blood status."

She could hope, right?

Shifting on the couch, Meg sat up and rested her book across her thighs. It was getting close to time for the match to start, and she could study outside as effectively as inside.

"Want to head out? I've just got to get a coat."

"Maybe. If I ever become headmaster of Durmstrang, I'll definitely break the long-standing stupid tradition," he declared, even if the chances of him ever becoming headmaster anywhere were slim to none.

Nodding, he stretched his arms above his head and pushed to his feet, "Yeah, we should get good seats for your first Quidditch match in who knows how long."

He debated whether or not he needed a coat, but as long as she had to get one anyway, he might as well.

Meghan had to laugh at the idea of that. "Your mum's Muggleborn," she pointed out. "Bet they wouldn't let you in, let alone make you headmaster." Granted, his mum was brilliant, but that never seemed to matter to the sort who judged on blood.

Shaking her head, Meg started out of the commons. She'd go fetch her coat and drift out to the pitch. She'd stay long enough to make sure Lily saw her, then head back inside to do some actual homework.
