Eric was Johnny's best shot at having a relationship with a normal family member, that pretty much summed their family up. As much as he felt like he deserved all Johnny's anger and then some, though, he would have understood that tiny part that just couldn't give up. Hell, he'd forgiven Ginger for taking off almost immediately. He'd been more proud of her for actually doing it than mad at her for leaving the rest of them behind. As for why he couldn't extend that same grace to himself, well, probably blame their parents. Their parents could be blamed for a lot of things.
He had to take a second to think back and count up the years, and the answer took him a little bit by surprise. "Six years." And somehow he hadn't gotten himself kicked out, hadn't failed, hadn't ruined all his relationships. As for how he'd wound up with this many friends, honestly he had no idea. People here just didn't give up on you the way he'd been used to before. "My first month, whole damn place turned into a musical. People were singing their feelings for days." So disappearing doors were nothing out of the ordinary, in other words.
