Justin was on his usual seat upon the pool table. The next time he'd met with Beth to play video games he had sat there again, and from that point on he felt awkward if he didn't. Places had been established. It would look totally weird if he just decided to sit next to her one day.
Yup.
Anyway, today was Super Smash Bros; her pick, of course, not his. He'd let her pick the games that they played, and it worked out for him that most of hers weren't what he'd been into when he was younger. It was like playing something brand new!
He didn't even notice his phone going off at first, but then the sound of the alarm in the school jerked his mind away from the game and on to what was happening. "Oh, we have to go to the Danger Room. They have these drills sometimes." No big. But then, as soon as he'd hopped off the table, something slammed into the wall hard enough to cause cracks and make bits flake and fall off. His eyes widened. "Oh shit, we have to go." Without thinking, he reached out to grab her hand as he started to run.
