Visualize your destination. That was easy in this instance given she and Herr Wagner had specifically set out a target zone and visited the location a few times. It was a clearing on the other side of the grounds near the far side of the lake. Currently she was present on the front lawn near the main doors going through all the mental checks that her power adviser had given her before attempting anything. It was important to ingrain that even if it became second nature once she was more experienced. For now it was more like a minute long process, but on the other hand that didn't even seem remotely negative: she could teleport theoretically anywhere and could do so with a minute? Of course, that was in a perfect world even. At present Alicia had mixed success, a fluctuation of victories and failures.
Which, frankly, was an apt description of her time so far at Xavier's. There was that intense, ravenous curiosity that came with being at a place like this, meeting new people, and finding out precisely all the extents of people's powers. That was fun, but it was tempered with the realities that she and Graham had broken up because he was a cheating twat, that she'd completely left her old life in Australia behind so that she could make sure she didn't, you know, end up in Wyoming randomly again or worse. And, of course, Nina who was less likely to be icing her out after this much time—probably unless Alicia had really misjudged her friend—so was likely missing. And that kept her worried and having some restless nights. As much as the unknown of Nina's situation rankled her it was better than knowing without a doubt that she'd sent the other girl somewhere else, so with that she was able to tuck 'not actually sure, Nina may just be a jerk' as a band-aid on that potential wound and push things to the back of her mind so that she could live her life. The best option? No, but she had to make due.
Where was she? Alicia's face scrunched up more in concentration as she tried the most difficult part of this whole process: imagining herself traveling. This was the part that she'd had the most trouble with, and that Herr Wagner had soothingly explained would take some work, and that it may be specific to her. What worked for him was not necessarily what would work for her in this regard, and that they would find it even if it took some time. At first, Alicia had gone with her code-name namesake and imagined herself walking through a portal and appearing elsewhere. That hadn't worked, or at least Alicia hadn't really understood what she was supposed to do. Nonetheless she could force herself it seemed by really pushing it, but that had really negative influences on important things like 'accuracy'; yes she'd found herself in a nearby state named Connecticut once, what of it? Needless to say the portal thought had been put in the rubbish bin where it belonged, and now she was working through other things. 'Flying' hadn't worked, and really the problem was how did someone visualize teleporting when you thought of it as instantaneous? What the hell was there to visualize?
But Alicia had a theory that'd popped into her mind late last night when she was thinking about that fateful night in Sydney a couple weeks ago. Falling, bouncing around, more or less. Not really that though, she'd remembered that she thought of it as sliding through a tube or hole so that's where she was focusing on today. "'Kay, gonna try now," she announced, and then with the thought of the destination, she pushed herself forward by imagining she was falling through a tube and—
The familiar crackle of energy reached her ears, and one moment Alicia was there, and the next she was mostly in the destination, a little off if she was honest. But the whole thing had worked in a way that Alicia wasn't quite anticipating, that it was noticeably easier so much that she'd been surprised. Naturally when she deposited herself in the clearing there was still forward momentum—something she'd also have to work on in time—so Alicia stumbled forward, tripped, landed hard, and ending up eating some of the wild grass that grew here. By the time Herr Wagner 'bamfed' to her location, she was already up brushing herself off, spitting out whatever forest undergrowth had gotten into her mouth. She looked like a child who'd been rolling around roughhousing outside with the grass stains on her knees.
However, if her power adviser thought she'd be annoyed at the outcome he'd have been mistake. Alicia broke into a grin. "Oi, I think I got something!" she whooped exuberantly, meaning she had an idea to help improve things, or at least getting herself to go somewhere landing notwithstanding. Clearly, she was excited enough she jogged over looking pleased with herself, complete with spring in her step, and embarrassingly held up a hand for a high-five.
