Marcela "DARE to say no to drugs" de la Rosa (rebote) wrote in beyond_evo,
Wasn’t Marcela a fool? Her sole job when it came to Nikki was to predict and stop threats from harming her. She had failed that; she’d been suckered in by all the talk of saving the future, had even believed Diego had to go while Isabel had been skeptical. No, that little bit of hope in Marcela was easy to prod, and it had been teased already. It had blown up in her face and now there was no time to be hopeful about the fact that despite everything Nikki had somehow wandered away when she wouldn’t before, and it was for the best Isabel hadn’t pushed that issue. “I should have,” she stated firmly. If Isabel was skeptical over Diego’s need in the future, or the premise in general, should she not have been? Was willfully ignoring the potential for lies and misdirection somehow not making her an idiot, or at best, naive?
Marcela would be harsh on herself as Isabel would have been had their spaces been reversed.
“We will round about after collecting Deacon to check on some of the others, I am awaiting details of who is closest.” After a pause and another message that had her checking her phone once more she added, with a little relief, “The others do not appear to be under direct threat, but sitting back would be just as foolish.” No, the charges would all be secured and then they would assess their options going forward with the rest of the school Administration. “Stay with me. I understand what you are offering, but they will not so readily trust anyone else.” Even a twin sister who would be just off enough from Marcela to send up spikes of alarm, most likely. Oh, and that thing about not wanting Isabel out of her sight, too.
As the moved further down the halls at their quick pace, Marcela’s thoughts ran to Angelo and the others, his friends, wondering how many of their number had been taken from them as well. Had he himself? She hadn’t seen anyone announce anything, but his boyfriend, Jono, was only concerned about another woman; surely he’d have said. The absence of news there was confirmation, but that didn’t mean that this sudden disappearance of random people hadn’t harmed every smaller group of friends or family within the school itself. A place that should have been a sanctuary, even.
At least they were together, and as tense is the situation was, as hurried and rushed as they were to batten down the hatches to secure who they had left, Marcela gave a bright, but ultimately very relieved smile towards her sister before kicking open the door to the one of the stairwells. “Good, I would hate to have to chase you down and tackle you.” An attempt at a joke, and a bad one, but so be it. She entered the stairwell, and used her heel to keep the door open for her sister.
Working in tandem with her twin certainly felt so right.
