Summary: All is not well in the Shacklebolt house.
He'd first seen her when he got home from work the last time. She was the most welcoming sight... She helped him into the shower, which stung, and then into bed and from there she left. It was Hestia who brought him tea and useless pain potions.
But that was days ago. She'd returned to him.
It hurt to move from the bad hex he'd taken by Mulciber. Collette took care of him as much as he'd let her, but even she wasn't allowed to fawn all over him. Everything was perfect, despite the pain and odd marks on his skin. She looked as gorgeous as the day he'd married her and her soft smile seemed to illuminate the room whenever she was in it. In the nights they had made love and during the days they spent their time in each other's arms as much as possible. He felt like a new man.
He hadn't seen her today though... she wasn't around when he woke up and she hadn't come in since then. He was feeling particularly ill, stiff, itchy... there was a sort of dried film all over his skin and a sickening smell rising from the mattress. Despite the pain he pulled himself out of the bed and went to the loo. As he moved to the door of the bedroom he was stopped in his tracks, the door was practically glowing green around the edges. The sort of green he knew too well. With a strangled cry and stiff painful movements he made his way to the door.
He couldn't lose her a second time. He wouldn't. He refused to.
Kingsley screamed his disapproval as though the words, if yelled loud enough and with enough conviction would this time save his wife from her fate. But there she lay, death in her eyes and her body limp at the top of the stairs.
Bent over her form Kingsley wept.
