RP: Setback
Date: 3 March 2006 Characters: Terry Boot, Poppy Pomfrey (NPC), Oliver Wood Location: Hogwarts Private/Public: Private Rating: PG Warnings: - Summary: Terry goes in for his monthly check-up, a week late. Poppy's out of headache potions strong enough, so he goes to see Oliver in the dungeons.
Terry had missed his month check-up with Poppy, not entirely on purpose, but he'd just been feeling so fantastic--between Ernie, and his research was going well, and even Adrian hadn't managed to get on his nerves more than usual while they were working together--that he'd forgotten he was supposed to see Poppy a month after his first appointment with her. He'd been doing everything she ordered--eating properly, exercising daily, getting at least six hours of sleep at night--and hadn't really seen the need.
But for the past few days he'd been feeling horrible. His whole body hurt, especially the joints, and he hadn't been able to rid himself of the headache he'd had even with the strongest headache potions he could find. He was sure he had a constant fever, not high enough to be dangerous, but enough to make him uncomfortable. If it hadn't been for classes and his research, he'd have gladly spent whole days in bed. He'd figured it was just a cold, but instead of lessening as the days went past, it seemed to get worse.
Ernie had been feeling out of sorts as well, so Terry assumed they'd somehow contracted the same virus. Ernie had said he'd go up to the shack if it got worse, and Terry meant to make sure that happened. He didn't like worrying about his boyfriend, and knew that Ernie felt the same. They'd promised each other that they'd keep an eye on the other, and Terry meant to keep his side of the bargain. If only he could get well first. Luckily, Ben wasn't showing any signs of the virus, and Terry hoped it would stay that way. No students had fallen ill either, though Ben had come home from school with a tale from Liam that Ella was very ill, and had missed school. Terry made a note to owl Millicent to check on her, as he made his way up to the Infirmary.
He'd finally had to cave in and go to see Poppy, because he was out of Pepper Up and other, stronger potions, and the headache and joint pain hadn't alleviated at all. Poppy checked him over thoroughly, especially when Terry explained that one of Ben's friends had been ill. "Children are wonderful for carrying viruses and passing them to parents," she'd said kindly. "Ben isn't showing any signs of being ill?"
"No, he's in perfect health, as ever," Terry said, wincing as a severe pain lanced through his head, causing star bursts to explode behind his eyelids.
Despite that, Poppy hadn't been able to discern nothing wrong beyond a common cold--though a very severe one. "If you get spots, or the fever goes up, come see me immediately," she said sternly. "But for now, follow these instructions, and do not over-do yourself. I want you to stop the exercise for now, until you're well again." She handed him a list with potions and appropriate doses. "Do not exceed the dosage there. If you're not better by Wednesday, or Merlin forbid, you get worse, please come see me, Terry. Don't let this linger. It could be dangerous." Poppy's voice held a note of something, but Terry was too tired and sick to wonder what it could mean.
Terry nodded. "I promise," he said, smiling reassuringly, even if even that hurt. "I'll go see if Severus or Oliver have these potions, or if they could make them." He knew she didn't keep anything of this strength in stock, as they was rarely needed.
Terry headed down to the dungeons, not at all surprised to see that Severus was either occupied or out of the castle, and headed for Oliver's brewing room, which was right next to Severus' office area. He knocked gently and waited for Oliver to give the okay to come in.
