Cass hated seeing his friends upset. It made him self conscious, uncomfortable, as if he was expected to solve whatever it was that was wrong. He couldn't though, and he knew that, so he settled for putting a hand on Higgs' shoulder.
'Dennis Creevey,' he said plainly. 'He's a vampire, he bit her...I don't know if he meant to kill her but her blood-' He sighed. 'It doesn't matter, whatever his intentions were, he bit her, she bled out.'
He knew he ought to ask him about potions, but right now wasn't a good time. He could see that, so he kept his mouth shut as he listened to Higgs lie about where he'd been. How he knew it was a lie he wasn't sure, he just...felt it. It was the forever reminder that his friends didn't tell him things - that there would always be a line they didn't cross. Things they didn't tell him - things he didn't tell them.
'In other words you don't want to talk about it,' he said instead, not asking more. 'So how badly are you hurt and have you seen a healer about it?'
