Summary: Cormac isn't sick. Except he is.
Cormac dragged himself up the stairs, powering through the aches and pains as he followed Emma into her room. He'd been feeling out of sorts for a day or so now, but had assumed he'd just worked himself too hard in the training room. He'd had to step up his routine lately, since Colin liked for him to try new sweets from the shop. But the pains weren't going away, even with potions and salves.
Emma was chattering happily about what she wanted to do that afternoon, especially excited that Cormac was home for once before everyone else. "And then we will have a tea party, and then we'll play dress-up and then we can have Princess Samantha's birthday party and then you can read me a book and Mac, are you listening to me?"
Cormac shook his head, grimacing as the action worsened the headache that had slowly been creeping up. Emma was staring at him, little hands on her hips as she waited for his full attention. "Sorry, Princess," he said, lowering himself to the ground. "I'm just tired."
Emma gasped, and put her little hadn on his forehead, frowning in concentration. "Mac, I 'fink you have a fever! You're all sweaty." She leaned sideways and studied his face. "And you don't look good. Are you sick?"
Cormac shook his head again. A few aches and pains, and overheating from exercising did not mean he was sick. "No, baby. I'm not sick. I don't get sick." And he didn't. He hadn't been sick since he was a child, with Dragon Pox. "It's just been a long week at work."
Emma frowned again. "Mac, if you's sick, you need to have a nap, and some tea. Orange juice too, my first Daddy always gave me orange juice when I was sick."
Cormac smiled, and struggled to his feet. The room spun a bit, and maybe that workout had been too intense. "Thanks baby, I think I will go have a nap." A short nap, and he'd be back to his old self again.
"I'll watch over you!" Emma declared. She grabbed Princess Sparkles and a few books, and then waited for Cormac to leave the room. "That way, I can get you water or juice or crackers! I'm good at taking care of people! My other Daddy was sick once, and me and Mommy taked care of him."
Cormac laughed weakly, wondering why he was all of a sudden feeling much worse than when he'd arrived home. "Thanks, sweetheart," he said, as they made their way to his room. Emma got settled on the bed as Cormac went to the bathroom, slowly washing his face and stripping out of his robes. He pulled on an old shirt and a pair of sweatpants, and headed back to the bedroom, collapsing on the bed with a groan.
Emma reached over and patted Cormac's face gently. "Don't worry Mac, you'll be okay. I'll take care of you." Cormac mumbled something even he couldn't make out, and then closed his eyes, asleep instantly.
