Miles had heard enough. Daphne had been cruel, but Romilda had a knack of bringing the worst out in everyone. "Don't bite back, love," he said to Daphne, feeling her rage from where he stood next to her. He tried not to think just how turned on he was by the sight of her all wild like that, because the sight of Romilda was every kind of kill joy.
"Nobody is poisoning Liam against you Romilda," he said with a sigh. "We didn't bother to tell you about getting married because you were going to react no matter how it got sugar coated."
He pointed his wand at Romilda, a slightly menacing look on his face. "I tolerate you here because of our son. I can just as easily put ghost repelling spells on the manor, and then you'll only get to see Liam when he's with Millicent."
He'd had enough of her, frankly, and was glad Liam was still safely in his room. "Liam has lost Rosmerta - do you really want me to tell him that his 'ghosty mummy' had to leave permanently as well?"
"Liam's got more people in his life now who care for him than when you were alive, Romilda. Stop being so bloody selfish, and be grateful that he's got that." Miles' fury was low but very evident behind his words.
"Daphne is the mistress of this manor, and if she wants you banished, then I'll accede to her wishes." He glanced in Daphne's direction.
