He nodded slightly, almost curtly, mostly to keep from jostling his head to much. "We need to be going there anyway, according to Theo..." And he really didn't need to know why, only that they did and that Theo had information. It was enough to move them to Ireland for awhile.
"Verity..." he said quietly, he couldn't believe that every man that she'd known had treated her as an object. He knew that they didn't. Theo hadn't, he didn't...
He fought the pounding inside his head to lightly brush her cheek, wishing he knew how to prove all that too her. He knew that what he'd done was not the way to increase the trust- he should have found a better way; but he'd panicked and now he had to deal with the consequences.
Even though she was keeping her voice down, the tones were still somewhat shrill, and it echoed in his concussed head. "No. No. Verity, please." He shut his eyes, the sound and the movement of the room to much and he could only shut out one. "I don't want to lose you over this." He knew it was ridiculous, but he almost felt as if a wall had been drawn again- that he'd lost ground in what he'd worked so hard in in their marriage. He supposed, on some level, he deserved it- but even now, his other options only seemed worse. They were the easy way out in immediately dealing with her- but the Imperious or a sleeping charm on her to knock her out... both were underhanded, wrong, an Unforgivable. He refused to use on his wife.
Shaking his head, he opened his eyes to look at her again, her face only swimming for a moment in his vision. "Can we..." he licked his lips almost nervously, his mouth suddenly dry. "If I swear- if this situation ever arises again- to check the potion, or anything of the sort.... will you," he paused, "try to trust me a bit more?" He doubted it would work, but at this point he was out of ideas.
