"You don't need to know the answer to that," Rodolphus said with a hint of warning in his voice. "All you need to do is follow your orders."
He watched as Mortimer uncapped the vial the made a complex little movement with his wand. The potion rose out of the vial and dissippated into a mist. The healer gave another little complex wave of his wand and the mist formed into a spear-like formation and shot into Miles' arm. Mortimer gave a satisfied nod and looked over at Rodolphus.
"If that is all?" he asked with a respectful bow.
Rodolphus was about to dismiss him when something occurred to him and he gave Miles a considering look. "Mortimer, do you have another vial of that potion on you? And can it be taken orally?" He deliberately made sure he called it a potion, rather than a vaccine. Miles was a fool but he wasn't that stupid.
Mortimer blinked and looked a touch startled. Then he seemed to realise what Rodolphus wanted and he gave a small nod. "I do and it can however it will take longer to take effect. Perhaps a day as opposed to only a few minutes. It shouldn't make too much of a difference at this point."
Rodolphus nodded. "Very well. Please give a vial to Miles here. He has a son who should be protected. Then you may go." He suspected Miles cared more for his son than his new wife but he could do whatever he liked with the vaccine.
Mortimer shrugged and pulled a second small vial out of his robes. He handed it to Miles then hurried out of the room.
