The ball had taken a turn for the better for awhile, there, as she found out about Miles and Daphne and got to enjoy delicious new gossip. And the donations were going quite well, indeed, in spite of her stinky friends who hadn't come. At least they'd sent galleons instead.
But then she'd turned smack into the sight of Harry hugging the Weaselette, and the bottom had dropped out. It had literally felt like that, like her stomach and heart had just plummeted to the ground, and Pansy frankly didn't know what to do. She'd never felt like that before in her life. At the most, she'd been in a snit that someone was paying more attention to another than her, but it had been more an angry thing. This time it hurt!
Pansy had blindly headed straight for the champagne fountain and had had several glasses in a row. Then, for some odd reason, it had become imperative to know if Mr. McStinky Git had left with the skank. So she'd grabbed another glass of champagne and was now wandering the room, looking for Mr. Git-head and Miss Skanky Stink.
Someone back in the shadows caught her attention, and she stopped for a moment to figure out who it was, but it turned out to be Cass's new interest, Mr. Head Man, and she knew that wasn't his right name. No, he was one of those Weasleys. But he must be a good one because he was not hugging on Harry, and Cass liked him.
Of course, Cass liked Harry, and Cass was doing Harry, and maybe she was just going to be mad at Cass, too.
But she still loved Cass, so she was going to check out this new guy for him. Although hiding in the shadows was just not on.... She would have to speak to Cass about that. Maybe when she announced she was mad at him....
Handing her glass to the nearest person to her, a pretty little witch in a ball gown who looked at her oddly though she didn't notice,' Pansy put on her best flirty smile and sailed over to Mr. Head Man.
'So has it turned out as well as you had hoped?' she asked hopefully. It would be horrible indeed if she'd gone through this all and it wasn't even satisfactory. She might even give up parties, after this awful experience!
