Ernie turned his head and pressed a kiss against Terry's hair. "Thank you," he whispered. "I just don't know what will set off the memories. I didn't even know they could be set off like that."
Ernie plucked a few pieces of popcorn from the bucket after Terry picked it up, more for something to do than because he was overly hungry. "Yeah, maybe... I don't know," he said with a small frown. "Not sure I really want to remember what happened." The healers had told him he should talk about it with someone, that it was healthy to do that but... who really wanted to hear about what had happened?
They both fell silent when the previews started and Ernie made a note of a couple of movies that maybe they could go and see at a later point. The theatre then darkened completely and the movie started. It was more engrossing than Ernie had expected, being more about family and the brotherhood among the firefighters than the actual job itself and focussing mainly on the life of one firefighter trapped in a burning building.
Despite this, he still managed to sneak more than a few kisses with Terry and their fingers tangled often in the popcorn bucket. He was almost surprised by the ending of the film, having expected the firefighter to somehow be rescued. He found the funeral procession at the end to be terribly sad and yet somehow uplifting at the same time.
When the lights came up again, he looked over at Terry. "I think they're incredibly brave but I don't think I could do their job. Thank Merlin we have magic to fight fires."
